i was at the fort last week and noticed that the lawn mower tree had been cut,the stump was still there along with the mower.did anyone else notice this or was i just seeing things?:confused3

Nope, you weren't seeing things!! I first noticed it in June.

At least they left it!!

They did that back in May. DD and I were in town and stopped in at Trails End for lunch. Afterwards we went to the Settlement Post and saw them getting the saw out. It was a changing day in my life lol. It was dead at the top was the reason. All the needles were brown.

Yea, Stacktester was the first to alert us to this I believe. All I have to say is it's great that they actually left most of the tree there, along with the lawnmower of course ;) They easily could have just removed the whole thing, but I think that it is pretty much an institution at the Fort, and removing it really wouldn't have done anything.

Hopefully one day they can start a new shoot off of the tree, but for now it looks like we are stuck with the Lawn Mower Stump ;)

Does anyone else feel like I do: With all of the advance planning Disney does behind the scenes (i.e. growing plants and shrubs in their horticulture dept for years before they plant them), shouldn't they have been growing a "new" lawnmower tree to replace the original in such a situation as this?

Lawn mower trees aren't pretty and magical! ;)

Hence, no planning was done to preserve it!

Howdy everyone....I've been lurking on these boards for a couple of months now, learning and laughing at some of you characters....I swear some of you should have a disney cartoon written about you....you guys are hilarious. But this is the first time Ive felt the need to post something....most threads hold the answers to most questions thqat come up.....but someone, PLEASE, fill me in on the "LAWNMOWER TREE" legend. I've never heard of it, and I feel empty without the knowledge of this, what must be historical diddy. Humor me please...you dont have to start it of with "Once upon a time...", but the cliff notes would be great. Taking my family of 7 to FW Dec2/07....first trip on grounds. Cant wait....the more I read here, the more excited I get...and Im 39 years old, still makes me feel like a 10 yr old. Now about that lawnmower tree.......popcorn::

To give you the Reader's Digest version, someone left a reel type lawnmower leaning against this tree, and the tree eventually grew around it. It used to be much more visible than it is now. With time, the tree began to engulf it more leaving only a couple of metal pieces visible. I am afraid this was probably it's downfall, too.

OMG...for real??? How many years does it take a tree to grow around a lawnmower???? And who was the last guy to mow that dang lawn, do ya think he still wonders what he did with that mower? Maybe he was worn out, leaned it on the tree and got to thinkin....:I figure I might go an git me one of them new fangled engine powered mowers....right now!"

Does anyone have a pic of the Lawnmower Tree? And thanks for the quick response, man...you guys are on your game!:thumbsup2

Here is the Lawnmower Tree in all it's glory:

You can see the edge of the blade down by the bottom left of the tree trunk. In person it's a bit more visible than in this picture...
