If you don't have a room in the tower but in the wings, is it a long walk to the monorail? How do you get to the wing sections, is it a seperate entrance or can you walk there from the main lobby in the towers.

I have two small children and It would be nice to be close to the monrail. Is it worth the extra money to stay in the tower?

Thanks

We love the Contemporary. For myself, I prefer the Wings (I have a fear of heights). As for it being a long walk, it depends on what room you get. The rooms close to the tower are not far at all. The wings are pretty long, so if you are close to the shore, you might have a 5 minute walk. Enjoy your trip.

One more point, the rooms in the tower can be very noisy. You have the noise from Chef Mickey and from the monorail. The wings are a good choice if you ask me.

We stayed in the north wing. Our room overlooked MK. We could see the fireworks from our room. The bus stop is closer to the north wing, too.

We really enjoyed our stay. But, don't worry, the CR really is that spread out. The wings are very quiet, too.

Our dd was 2.5 that trip.

Also when you leave the tower building the walk way is covered to the wings! so if raining you don't get all wet! :D

The wing buildings are 3 floors, and the tower is 14 + the top floor resturant = california grille.

You will love the CR, lots to do! Have a great time! MKY :D

We will also be staying there for the first time this December just in a standard room and I asked for the north wing as close to the main building as possible. Glad to hear that the walkway to the wings is covered as that is a plus over the other resorts. But seeing how I'll be under cover it won't rain.;)

Dear mazzarafe

We stayed at the Contemporary a few years back and loved it.
Our Children were very young at the time. We had requested a room in the North Garden Wing. We had asked to be close to the tower and on the first floor. We originally had booked a parking lot view but upon on check in we received an upgraded garden view. We had a small patio with a couple of chairs. There was also a children’s play area nearby. The room was a very a short walk to the tower and was close to the bus stop as well. After a couple of days we discovered that there was a side entrance to the food and fun center. This meant you can enter the food and fun center without having to go though the tower. It was very convenient. If you have refillable mugs, Coffee in the morning is just steps away.

I have no doubt you will enjoy your stay no matter where your room is located. Have fun (-:

We have stayed in both, personally I prefer the tower, but the wings were nice and I didn't find the walk bothersome at all. We stayed in both north and south. My only suggestion is if you are staying in the wings, don't do the first floor nearest to the entrance because there is a LOT of noise espcially at night due to the elevator and traffic.

ENJOY you will LOVE the CR!

We stayed in the N Garden Wing and our kids were 5 and 20 months....I have to be honest and say that at the end of a long day, or when it was nap time, it seemed a long way from the monorail station to our room. Our room was kinda far back in the wing (room 7232---had a great view of the lake and fireworks though!), so that was part of the problem. But the walk wasn't bad when we were energized- just lugging a 28 pound child, the stroller and all the paraphernalia was taxing at times- it would have been nice to be in the tower or at the beginning of the wing. However, the N Garden wing is closest to the bus stop and the walkway to the MK. We often walked to the MK in the AM, since you have to make 3 stops (TTC, Poly & GF) to get to the MK on the monorail- it is almost quicker to walk. You are the first stop on the way back. Have Fun!! And get the refillable mugs- your kids will loves getting refills of ICEE drink. :)

Searl,

Thanks for the info about the side entrance to the food center. I'll be sure to try to find it as DH is usually the coffee fetcher! I don't function well until I've had a few sips so this is important to us. We've started to get a collection of mugs, I usually don't get them for the kids but it's worth is just for the coffee.

I'm hoping not to the end room next to the tower but not down by the lake either. This will be our first trip without a stoller for my 5 year old, so the less I have to carry her the better. I'll take whatever I get just so I can be on the monorail. This is our first time at CR but we've done Chef Mickey's a few times before. Not too concerned about noise though as my kids sleep like the dead when we are at Disney.

My 2 DD's are very excited about staying here as are me and DH.

The wings aren't really that far from the tower - other resorts have some much longer walks. I do echo LoriZH, see if you can avoid a room right by the entrance - there's a lot of traffic going by.

And Alice28, that's one of the Fundamental Laws of WDW Vacation Physics: the distance between your room and transportation is three times longer when coming back to your room than it is when you leave your room.

Before becoming DVC members, the Contemporary was our resort of choice and we always stayed in the garden wings - both North and South. Some of the rooms can be a bit of a sprint to the main building, but the wings do not feels quite as frenetic as the main building does, in my opinion. It is really nice to be able to walk to the MK, although taking the monorail is always a real treat for the kids (and is a nice alternative at the end of a long day ;) I have wonderful memories of staying at the Contemporary....
