Question about the AP Discount for Members...

We are new members to DVC and taking our first trip in October. Since my extended family will be joining us (mom, dad, sister, sister's boyfriend), we are using my points for 4 nights in a 2 Bedroom Villa at Wilderness lodge.

For the other 3 nights, we will probably stay at a moderate. My immediate family (Me, DW, DS9) will be getting Annual Passes as we will return next year.

Looking at last year, I see that the free dining promotion was offered in October. The promotion usually requires that you buy at least a 1-day base park pass.

So...finally...my question is...

If "free dining" is offered and we have to purchase a park pass for the promotion, is there any way to "upgrade" the 1-day park pass to an Annual Pass and still receive the $100 off member discount?

Thanks,
Speed :teleport:

You should be able to apply unusued, non expired tickets toward the purchase of an AP even if using your DVC discount.

Where would I bring the 1-day pass to upgrade to an AP and get the $100 off discount?

I've already upgraded a pass to an AP a few years ago by bringing it to Guest Services right outside the Magic Kingdom.

Would I just be able to bring it to Guest Services and show my membership card to still get the $100 off discount?...or, do I have to bring it to a special DVC Guest Services to get the discount?

Thanks,

I just called about this and they said to go to guest services in the parks or in Downtown Disney.

New to this so let me see if I understand. I am going to be at WDW for 8 nights in Oct. If free dining is offered I would book 8 night park hopper passes get free dining on each then go to guest services to upgrade to Annual passes and get my dvc discount also.

Am I understanding this correct?

Yes, as long as you are staying on a package booked through CRO that qualifies for "free dining". If you are staying on points, then no, you are not eligible for the free dining promotion.

Total bummer. We will be staying SSR or BCV if we can get them next month.

We are doing a split stay because I don't have enough points (yet) to treat my extended family of 7 to a 2BR for the entire 7 days (including a Friday & Saturday).

Let me rephrase that...I don't want to borrow all my points from next year to treat my extended family to a 2BR for the entire 7 days (me=selfish new owner). The family has offered to pay my 3 nights at a moderate in return for their 4 "free" nights at the Villa....so it's a win/win for me.

I'm really hoping for a good AP discount for the moderate...like the $99 or $94 special running now. That may end up beating the Free Dining anyway since we are staying in 3 rooms at 2 adults in each room and one room with 2 adults and a child. Rack rate at a moderate is $170 in mid-October.
