I didn't know if I should post this on the main thread or not...:confused3

I just checked the FAQ about marathon weekend and found the sweep times.

I just wanna make sure I understand. For the 1/2 you have to do 3.5 miles in 1 hour 11 min, 6.3 in 1 hour 56 min etc......do I understand this correctly???
Thanks

Kim

On the website, they have added 15 minutes to the pace time. This is what they are expecting it to be for the last person to cross the start line.

Lets say it takes 15 minutes for the last person to cross the start. 3.5 miles with a 16 minute pace would take 56 minutes. Add 15 minutes to that and you get 71 minutes or 1 hour 11 minutes. So if you were the last one to cross, you would have 1:11 to get to mile 3.5.

The amount of time for the last person can vary each year. One year it could be 10 minutes and the next 20. As long as you start your watch as you cross the start line and keep a 16 minute pace (including any stops), you shouldn't have a problem with sweepers.

So...does that mean that you could walk the 15K's if you have a 15 minute mile or so?!

Yep! Walk, skip, jump, run, crawl--whatever you want to do. All you have to maintain is a 16:00 mile. :)

The 5k's, 10k's, and 15k all usually have a 15 minute per mile pace requirement. The marathon and half marathon are the only ones with a 16 minute per mile pace.

Actually, for the 1/2M this past year, I think that the last person probably crossed the line about 30 minutes or more after the official race start.

Please keep in mind that if your chip time is not within the required time limit you will NOT get a finishers' certificate. And the interesting thing is that by the time my partner and I crossed the finish line at 7:17 the mats had been turned off and we DID NOT show as even finishing the race!

Race day andreniline will be on your side. This race we didn't do as much running as we had planned and stopped for quite a few pics. We still crossed the finish line at 3:29:08 (actually I was listed at 3:29:09 even though we crossed together, I wonder if the chip timer gave me that extra second as my bib # was one digit past DW Darcey's?!?) and got our medals. Work hard, don't lose hope, and keep focused on that prize (the Donald Medal). You can do it and you will do it....next year I will see your posts starting off with "I DID IT...IT WAS AWESOME!":thumbsup2

We are all gonna help each other this year.

"No WISH TEAM Members are going to be swept".

Wow I should put this quote by my Treadmill. I'm doing the 15 minute or less mile at the moment but it's only 3 miles at the moment. Once the weather is better here in NH, I hope to do a road course to really check/improve my time.

Thanks for the words of encouragement!

Thank you all for the kind words, I love you guys:grouphug: . This team is the best!!!!!!

Hockeychic,
You also need to remember, at least from my point of view, that walking/running outside is much easier than on the treadmill. I can run a 9:30 mile outside pretty easily (up to a point) but inside I am working my butt off to keep that pace.

I have a feeling that when you get outside you'll find the pace much easier to keep up.
Either way,
enjoy.
Duane

Thanks Duane, actually I would have thought it was easier on the TM.....that makes me feel so much better.

If you don't get a certificate do you at least still get the medal???? Sorry but to me it is all about the hardware:lmao:

Thanks Kim
