Hello, :flower:

I have some questions about Splash Mountain and Thunder Mountain Railroad since this time we will actually get to ride them when we go down:

Regarding Spash Mountain--

-This following question is from my mom, how bad is the splashing? I mean, you don't get submerged in the boats do you? :cold:

-Is it hard for bigger adults to sit in? my dh who is a big n' tall guy might ride if the seats aren't made for 5 year olds lol :earboy2:

Question about BTMR:

--How scary is it? I new to rollercoasters but, I would love to ride it . However, I'm kinda chicken after riding in the VERY front of SM. :scared1: Is less scary then Space mountian at least?

Thanks! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I personally LOVE the railroad ride and could ride it for hours. It's not scary at all and in fact was the first rollercoaster I was ever on. My db's nieces love it as well and they are 8 and 5. It's the perfect one to go on for your first time.

As for splash mountain you don't get submerged but you will get good and wet and there is plenty of room in the seats.

I personally love the railroad and think its tons less scary than the drop on SM. Can't wait to ride it lots of times in 1 month!!!!

Splash Mountain:

I don't think you get that wet. I've gotten much more wet on other water rides like the Rapids and a few rides at Universal. If you sit right up front you might get a bit more wet but still not drenched.

I think tall and Pooh sized can fit in this ride. If you are really Pooh sized, you might just have to sit alone? It's quite comfortable for adults.

Thunder Mountain:

It's like a fast train. It's by no means like those big scary roller coasters at IOA or other Amusement Parks. It's pretty fun!

I don't think either ride is 'scary' but I guess the drop on SM does make me scream!

A few years ago when my mom was age 80 we had her on Splash Mountain and she loved it. Of course, she's a pretty courageous type. It's not a total soaking by any means--and there's lots of times we've come off it with only a few drops of water--sometimes completely dry. In contrast there's the Kali River Rapids or Grizzly (at DL) and on those you're guaranteed to get something like 33% or more wet. (On Kali I'd say it's more like 75%) I don't like Kali for that reason--but we always ride Splash. And the show in Splash leading up to the drop IS NOT TO BE MISSED. It's one of the great WDW experiences. Oh, and concerning size, I'm 6'1" 195 lbs. and it's easy for me to get in and out. And I've seen lots bigger folks getting on and off.
Concerning Thunder--I'd try it. I don't like coasters and it took a lot of coaxing for me to get on Aerosmith at MGM. I only did it for the first time last year. (Turns out I loved it and we rode multiple times.) But I've been riding Thunder for years. What I don't like about coasters is they usually seem so insubstantial (perched up on those 100' tall steel poles--curves that seem to swing out in midair, etc). But on Thunder you're riding up, around and down through a substantial mountain. There's so much to look at that it's not like a typical roller coaster feeling. (For the what it's worth my mom also loves Thunder and at age 85 it won't surprise me if she does it later this month!) Have fun!

I didn't get drenched on Splash Mountain. I got wetter after the drop when you go around a corner to the right and if you are sitting on the right-hand side there is a waterfall that I got wet from. I think a larger person would be fine on this ride - my husband and I are on the tall side and it was fine.

As for BTMR my 11-year-old rode it and she was not scared whatsoever. It was not extremely fast but had some drops but nothing where you would lose your stomach!

They were both fun but Splash Mountain was my favorite!!!

Thanks!

I was just double checking on SM for my mom, she was worried the ride was like those kinds at waterparks where the boat gets totaly covered with water lol, now I can reasure her hehe :cheer2:

Hi,

From my opinions:

SM: You dont get very wet at all, at least I never have. You may get slightly damp but sometimes dont get very wet at all. If you dont want to get as wet, sit in the back, even the CM's will tell you if you ask.

the seats at SM are probably among the easiest at WDW for bigger people. They are just a row, not so much a seat. They are "seats" but you'll see, they're easy for bigger folks.

About BTMRR: It's nothing! The fun is in the atmosphere of the ride and how unique it is. There's nothing scary about it. It's not too high of an adrenaline ride and I think you'll see that you'll not be scared. In fact, there's not even the typical rollercoaster "drop" that you find on most coasters. It's just sort of a winding coaster with no big drops or anything like that.

I love, love, love SM! It's my favorite! We always ended up in the first couple rows, but none of us got soaked. Mainly our faces but just sprayed. Dh was in the 3rd row and didn't get a drop on him. Your dh should be fine as far as the seats go. There's no restraints, seatbelts or anything.
I don't think BTMR is scary and I think SM is. Something about being in the dark going so fast. I'd rather to BTMR anyday. I say do it, you'll have a great time!

Splash: It is one of my favorite rides. I am 6'2"/ 260 and fit easily. I never have gotten really wet on the ride, but the "sceret" for me is that my wife and kids like for me to be one of the riders on the back row so that the splash at the bottom of the big hill is not so big (Think about the physics of it and you will get what I am atlking about)

BTMRR: It's not too scary (our 5yo DS loves it), but my knees do get knocked around on this ride just a little bit.

My responses are in red. :)

The logs do NOT submerge. If your mom wants to go on, ask the attendant to seat her in the BACK row of the log. They're very accomodating and will place you in the back if you ask. I always ask because I sat in the front row once, and the tip of the log went just far enough under the water, that some water spilled in and drenched me from the waist down. In the back, you'll get a couple of sprays of water. It's actually really refreshing on a hot day.

I used to be a 6'2" size 54 waist. I had no problem fitting. Getting into and out of the log required a certain bit of grace and balance, but your husband shouldn't have a problem.

The thing that adds to the "excitement" of Space Mountain is that it's in the dark. It actually moves no faster than 25 miles per hour! :) Big Thunder is sort of the same type of experience, just that you can SEE where you're going. It's a lot of fun, and I think you should DEFINITELY try it. I'm not a big Space Mountain fan, but Thunder Mountain is tons of fun! :)

Thanks! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
