Question about snowblowers

I have a question for those who have snowblowers. What's the earliest, in the AM, you've used your snowblower? Let me ask it this way, would you be upset if someone started using their snowblower at, say, 4am? Why would anyone be using their snowblower at 4am you ask? I'm glad you asked that. You see, I live on Cape Cod, but work in Boston, and on a normal day my commute is 2 hours one way, I usually leave before 6am, and if it snows then that just adds to the commute (this only happed once last year, my first year living on the Cape, and I called in sick). I don't want to use all my sick days because of snow. So, would you get mad at a neighbor if he used his snowblower at 4am?

Well I wouldn't be thrilled. However, if my neighbor had no choice and needed to clear their driveway in order to get out and go to work, then I would understand.

Not as long as they do my sidewalk too. ;) No I wouldn't mind it is not like it is everyday.

Well, I'll admit that would NOT be happy if my neighbor used his snow blower that early, even if he had to get to work. Couldn't you get up earlier (yes, it's a pain) and use a shovel?? :confused3 That's what we do if it's early. Please don't shoot the messenger! Just my opinion!

Don't worry, I don't shoot mesengers...I just lob snowballs at them. :duck: :teeth: Getting up earlier would mean, depending on how much it snowed, 3am to 3:30...or 4am I guess, again it depends on how much it snows. Thanks for all of your opinions though.

Doesn't bother me. Our city snowplows are plowing at all hours of the night, and those are MUCH louder than the snowblower next door. And besides, our neighbor usually does our sidewalk for us b/c he knows we don't have a snowblower.

OT: My husband once got upset because someone was snowblowing for what seemed like FOREVER on one of the only days he could sleep in over the holidays. Turns out it we got over 2' of snow and my dad drove over with his snowblower in his 4 x 4 to dig us out so we didn't have to! From that point on, he has never complained about the sound of snowblowers!

DH does ours around 5:00. I'm guessing the neighbors don't care because most of them are out there at the same time. We also live right at a crosswalk for schoolkids--they stand in our driveway for the crossing guard. The high school kids are trying to use the sidewalks and the cross walk by 6:45. If DH didn't clear the driveway before he left, the kids would have to stand up to their knees in snow.

Frankly, in the wintertime, I can't hear the snowblower inside the house even in our own front yard. In the summertime, people have their windows open and it's easier to hear when somebody's up early mowing the lawn. In the wintertime, everyone's all tucked in their homes.

I'd say only if it's the only way to get your car out of the driveway, otherwise just snowblow when you get home from work.
