Question about Sides on Kid's Meals on DDP

We are gearing up for our first family visit to DW. I'm starting to look at QS menus and noticed that the kids' meals all seem to include healthy sides like grapes, yogurt, and carrot sticks. While I don't want my kids to eat french fries with almost all meals for a week, I am wondering if we will ever be able to substitute fries (at those restaurants that have them on the menu). I personally know that I will want fries sometimes, and don't think that the parents eating fries while the kids eat carrots will go over very well. Guess we could order an extra side to split, but I would rather not purchase something extra on top of the dining plan meal.

Can you substitute fries sometimes, or are they included at some restaurants in the kids' meals?

At most places they can choose fries as one or maybe even both of their sides that come with the kids meal (but remember one of those sides will count as dessert). There are some places (like Sunshine Seasons) that don't even have fries, so obviously it won't happen there.

Sometimes if you look at the fine print on the kids menus you'll see "fries/soft drinks available on request" but I think they don't want you to see that so you won't ask for fries and they can claim to whoever it is they're trying to impress that they have healthy kids' meals.

Good, thank you for that information. I think we'll all be happier with fries as an option sometimes!

Yes, you can absolutely get fries as a side instead of carrots or grapes. :) You can also sub the milk with chocolate milk, small bottled water, or a soda...maybe even apple juice but I can't remember for sure. You can even sub a prepackaged cookie for your grapes or whatnot. Yay!

Yay is right! I couldn't figure out how kids were happy with eating fruit and drinking milk with every meal. It IS vacation, after all!

We substitute when we can also. My son was sick to death of little prepackaged bags of grapes and carrot sticks by day 3 two trips ago. This trip won't be an issue, we've got lots of different types of foods planned and are on the regular plan so lots of TS buffetts as well.
