DH says that I redeem our sharing the magic reward anyway I choose, except for as a down payment on more points (what a downer)! I'm just curious, if one choice is better than another? A few years ago we took the disney dollars, but we also got a tax statement on them later. Do you get the tax statement if you take the dues credit? I'd like to think about getting the disney gift card and use it toward our annual pass purchase next spring when we have our next trip planned. Can you use the gift card towards ticket purchases? Just curious what others have done.

We've used it for dues credit and did not receive a tax statement. (I wanted to get the Disney Gift card but that is NOT allowed in my state)

I'm not sure one is a better choice than another, just personal preference. Congrats on getting the referral!

We took the dues credit. I have no idea if we got a tax statement on it or not. I'd have to ask DH.

I've had 3 referrals and taken the gift card every time. I have never received a tax statement.

I took the gift card, I hope I don't get a tax statement or I will be pretty sad! Why no gift cards allowed in NJ????

The Sharing the Magic rewards are considered taxable income. Companies are only required to send you a 1099 if the payment is $600 or more in a calendar year. But even if you do not receive a 1099, the monies should be reflected in your income taxes.

The only option I would caution against is the prepaid Visa card. Those can be a bit of a hassle. You cannot charge more than the balance of the card so you'll either have to figure out a creative way to get every penny off the card or find a vendor who can split a payment over multiple credit cards so that you are paying for a portion with the prepaid visa and the rest with cash or another card.

Aside from that, the dues credit / Disney gift card are about the same. We all have to pay dues and we all have extra expenses while at WDW or DL. Just depends on how you want to spend that money! :thumbsup2

We always take the dues credit. It always come dues in January, right after Christmas and its nice not to have to write the entire amount at that time
