I am a true scrapbook beginner and my question was:

Do I need to use a special glue to hold stuff down?

and what about holding the pictures down? glue those also?

I noticed they sell borders and stuff but none have a stickie on the back so I am assuming I will have to use glue? any suggestions as to which one?

Thank you :):yay:

there are all kinds of different products to use. :) your best bet is to post your question on the scrapbook forum though.

There are a bunch of different things you can use, and it's mostly personal preference. I use glue for some things, but most of the time, I use a tape runner in my albums.

Your basic starting supplies are acid free adhesive-
at this point I use a glue glider pro but there are many types to choose from-

you can use glue sticks- I find them a little messier than I like

you can use a tape runner- purchased from a craft/scrapbook store (or section at Walmart)- these are little plastic things with double sided adhesive in them and you simply run them across the back of what you are going to stick down

you can use double sided tape- this is very strong and I use it for projects that have very heavy parts

there are also cool little items people use for attaching things together but I would suggest starting with one of the above.

The thread linked above has lots ofgood information and if you post any specific questions here you should get a variety of answers as many of us have different favorites and tools of the trade.

GM, your best bet is too use something acid and ligin free. It will prevent long term damage to your photos. Everyone has a favorite adhesive. I have always used Creative Memories's tape runner, but there are lots of other sticky options out there. You could look in a craft store in the scrapbooking section and be amazed at the different options. Good luck and welcom to the world of scrapbooking. We'd love to see some of your creations.

thank you so much for the suggestions. I did not even know we had a scrapbooking forum and posted in arts and crafts. Thank you for moving it for me mods. My ds is in college now so I have some time on my hands and will start with his prom and graduation scrapbook.:cool1:

I use different adhesives depending on the need. I like the creative memories tape runner, because the glue stripes are super thin and work well with some of the smaller pieces. I also like glue dots, you can get these at the local chain craft stores usually on sale, they are pretty good for sticking down things like ribbon if you get into that. I have also been using my zig 2 way glue pens on smaller pieces such as letters that I cut with my cricut.

There are many sites that you can get layout ideas from as well.

Have fun

love glue dots. :) if you can find glue lines, those are great too... :)

For heavy duty "gluing" i use Super Tacky Tape. It works the best when making album covers. this is not readjustable.
