Question about room requests

Okay so I booked a standard view room for AKL and it will be our first time staying there yay! Online check in came up and in the room request section it lists things like " closest to busses" and " closest to main area" to get to my point it has a request for "Sunset Savannah view" Does this mean even if you booked a standard room you can request a view and possibly get lucky if they decide to give it to you?

Hmm...I wouldn't think so, but anxious to hear what others have to say. Not sure why it would be there; seems odd to me. ???

It seemed weird to me too, but its there with the rest of the standard requests. As far as I know ppl also pay for preferred rooms which are closer to the main building, but that is also listed as a request. I hope a CM on the boards sees this and can maybe clarify.

My guess is its just a request, because I am guessing they do not mention any type of charge? They can not just charge you without your permission. If its what you want request it, I saw another post where someone mentioned the change to online requests.

There was no mention of charges, (I selected it and updated just to see for myself) I figured there's no harm in putting it through as a request if its there. Honestly, I will be happy no matter what and if that request goes through I will just consider it pixie dust ^.~

Interesting that they asked re: sunset and not uzima.
It may be they've classified some rooms that look out on a savanna view as standard view because they don't have that great of a view - some of the ones way out on Kudu trail look onto a small sliver of the sunset savanna, if I'm recalling correctly, maybe those are classified as standard view because the view is limited (and given how much more savanna view costs, if I paid for it, I would be disappointed to get one of those rooms - but happy to get one if I'd paid for standard view.) Are you staying in a room or a villa? Some of the value villas in Jambo have sunset savanna views.
In some of the other resorts some rooms in areas w/ theme park views are classified as garden because, for example, trees obstruct the view, so maybe it's a similar sort of thing w/ AKL.
Maybe you can ask when you visit and report back? Inquiring minds want to know

I'm staying in a room, and there were a lot of other requests. Like closest to busses, and lower level floor. It says you can select up to two requests but I only selected that one because I didn't want to come across as needy lol XD

I'm pretty sure that's just a standard list of requests, everyone staying at AKL gets the same list. Some may not apply to your reservation.

That requests page has always had a sort of unfinished feel to it, which is probably why they only list one savannah. For the longest time, everyone had the option to request a fridge in their room, and that was many years after the deluxes and mods all had fridges. I can't count the number of threads saying "I thought my resort had fridges in all the rooms, why does the request page say..."

So yeah, work in progress.

Just rechecked it and it appears they added "Kudu Trail View" as well. Not sure if it was recently added since I didn't notice it the first time.

It's just a bunch of requests all kind of lumped into one. It's been happening since the new website started up. I don't know if the plan is to ever differentiate, but as of right now it isn't.

That website is so full of errors (Regular dining plan showing 2 QS meals) I wouldn't get too excited - but hey, check it and see what happens! There are a few standard rooms there that still give a semi-view of the savannah.

lol I would be over joyed if they gave me a sliver of savannah to look at while sitting on the balcony, but it wouldn't ruin my vacation if it doesn't happen since I booked a standard room so that is what I am expecting. Anything added to that would simply be pixie dust

January 2012 I stayed in an AKL standard room with a very limited savannah view. It had a clear view of Kidani and the front part of Jambo House. If you look at the AKL map, you'll see the Sunset Savannah. It was quite a hike from the lobby. However since my standard room was on the 2nd floor, it was near one of the porch areas with rocking chairs that overlook the Arusha Savannah. The Arusha Savannah is the best view. So I spent more time over on the little porch area than on my balcony looking at the Sunset Savannah. But I do have some great Zebra photos from my balcony.

If being close to the buses, lobby, pool or Mara (the quick service) is important to you, you might not want to request the Savannah view. If you want the limited Savannah view near one of the porch areas overlooking Arusha, then request the 2nd floor in addition to the Savannah view. You'll have to take the elevator down to your room but I loved the porch overlooking Arusha. It was usually empty.

Thanks for the heads up =3 I actually don't mind the walk if I were to get a limited view. I didn't see anywhere in requests where I could make notes for the second floor. I guess I will just wait to see what I get lol I am just more and more excited every day just to be staying at AKL. It has been my dream place to stay since first eating at Boma in 2008
