Question about room requests

We're new to DVC - just bought on last month's cruise on the Dream. Getting ready to book our first vacation at AKL for June and I have a question about room requests.

I know that it is just a request. Do I ask for where we want to stay when we book with MS or can I wait till it's closer and then add it to the reservation. We plan on staying in a 2 BR in Kidani. Just don't know where we would be requesting yet cause I need to read more about the resort. DH just had back surgery this week so we have no idea how well he'll be walking by June or if he'll need to rent a scooter like our previous trips.

I have used a ECV at AKV Kidani and Jambo, both are excellent ECV resorts so you shouldn't be concerned.

Thanks. We're hoping he won't need the ECV anymore but he has plenty of rehab ahead of him and time will tell. At least, if he needs one, there will be more room for it in a 2 BR vs. a room at CSR or POP - the other resorts we have previously stayed at.

One recommendation I can make to you if DH opts not to get an ECV, is to request something close to the lobby. I have disc problems in my back & severe arthritis, but I'm too stubborn to get an ECV. The walk to the lobby from the furthest rooms at Kidani is really long. We got halfway to our assigned room (which was pretty close to the end of the hall) and I turned around and went back to the front desk and begged for something closer.

You do not mention whether the 2BR you want to get is savanna or standard view. For either one you can and should put in a non-guaranteed request for close to lobby. With savanna view your risk is getting "far" from lobby which to the end rooms on the north wing is 1/3 mile. For standard, if you do not get the request, you will still be somewhat OK because even the furthest away standards are not overly far from the lobby.

We're going to be requesting a Savannah view- 2 BR. If we request close to the lobby, will that be close to a bus stop as well? We'll probably have our car with us, but, I much prefer taking the bus. If he does rent an ECV, we'll definitely be using the bus.

If you get close to lobby you will be close to all amenities including bus stop. Note, if you have a car you park right under the building and can usually get spot that is close to an elevator that leaveds you with only a short walk to room.

We finally decided it was worth the 100 extra points for the week to stay SV. I really enjoyed it during our 1 night at AKL the night after our cruise last month. And, in June, we're taking DD and her family so I know that our 5 yr old DGD and 2 yr old DGS will really enjoy seeing the animals.

That's good to know. And, DH has handicapped tags.

Question about parking--are we allowed to have 2 cars parked? We won't know if we're driving or flying - it will depend on airfare. DD will definitely be driving as she does not like to fly and the money.
