Question about reservations

My Husband and I are planning our second trip (last one was in Oct. for our honeymoon), my husbands parents paid for our trip ( a wedding gift) but this time we are doing it on our own. I was curious about how the reservation system works on the Disney Website. Its says a deposit equal to one nights stay, I am curious how or when you pay the balance. DO you make payments...do you pay for it when you get there?

If any one could help I'd appreciate it.

I have not made reservations online with WDW, but I have booked over the phone.
If you book a room only I believe the payment is due when you check in, at least that is what we had when we made reservations over the phone. If you book a package the final payment has to be within 45 days of your arrival.
You can make periodic payments though. I made a copy of the confirmation and sent the copy with my payments, and paid the full amount before our trip.
