Hi! My friends are planning on going end of March to the parks. They are wanting to stay off site and I'm trying to help them figure out how to make sure they don't get shut out of a park. First question, I'm confused on reservations. If you need reservations how does the park close to capacity? Secondly, if they get there before park opening and they don't leave, should they be okay? Thank you!

If they have park reservations, they will be able to go to the park they have reservations for. Closed for capacity only impacts if they were to try to park hop after 2 pm (with a park hopper ticket). IF they did hop and were turned away, they could still return to the park they had a reservation for earlier in the day. HTH

Your friends will need to purchase tickets and make reservations for the parks they wish to go to.

Once you have a reservation for a park, you may come and go as often as you wish. A reservation = access for the full day.

Also, to date there has not been a reported case of someone wanting to hop to another park and the second park being closed to capacity. It could happen but so far does not appear this has happened.

Oh really? I thought I read end of December parks were closed to capacity around 8:30 am. Maybe I misread that. I haven't been following real closely. Thank you for the response!

That was happening at Universal, which is first come, first served in terms of getting into their parks.

As noted, Disney now has park reservations, and it is a good idea to book reservations as soon as you have tickets. Hollywood Studios is the only park that regularly reaches capacity and has no more reservations, and that typically happens days to weeks before a given date. Magic Kingdom did/will fill up on special occasions (Xmas Day, NYE, Oct 1, 2021 for the start of the 50th anniversary, etc.)

OH!! That makes so much more sense. Thank you! They'll be thrilled to know they don't have to pay to stay onsite. :)

They need to download the My Disney App, make an account, log in each ticket for members of their party and then make park reservations for which day they want to go to one of the 4 parks. There is no entry without a park reservation. The reservation is just like an ADR to a Disney restaurant. They will not be kicked out whether you stay on property or off site. They do have to make those reservations.
