If I need a certain number of points and no one is offering the total amount of points (** needed), how do I go about renting some from one person and some from another person? How do these points get connected so I can have the total amount of points needed for a stay?

I have never rented points before and I am trying to learn how to go about securing a place for 2011.

Thanks!

Look for someone renting more than the number you need and then contact them. Most will end up renting to more than one person and since you need a large number, IMHO, they will look at you quickly. Or at least I would since I would rather deal with one person instead of 3 or 4.

Hope this helps,
John

If you needed to rent from multiple members, each rental will need to be for whole nights. If you planned on staying 7 nights, you could rent 4 nights from one member and the next 3 nights from a different member. Those members would need to contact DVC Member Services to have the reservations linked. Both rooms have to be in the same category (resort, view, etc.) to be linked.

you can not actually "rent points." that is a bad description. as a non-owner, you cannot do anything with the points themselves - you can't even talk to member services to ask about the reservation, much less change anything.

you are actually renting a reservation. so as the other posters have said, you will have to rent the first few nights from one owner and then rent the rest of the nights from another owner and ask that the reservations be linked together...

Or why not use the Rent/Trade forum host "David's DVC Rentals" and let David do all the work in getting enough points for you?

I've rented some of my points through him, and he is above-board and does a fantastic job. Check out his site.

If the reservations are "linked" together, I assume I will be able to stay in the same room for the entire stay and not have to change rooms, mid trip - correct?

i don't think it's guaranteed but usually they try not to move you...

If they were the exact same category, you probably would if they were all linked.

Yes, that is correct. Linked reservations appear to the resort as one continuous reservation.

Note that reservations cannot be linked unless they are for exactly the same thing.

For example, one reservation cannot be for a dedicated studio and the other for a lock off studio. One cannot be for a standard view and the other for a savanna view.

If you are renting from more than one owner, you will have to be very specific about what you want to be sure they match. It's a lot easier to rent from one owner if that is at all possible.
