Hi,
I have just recently came across information on the DVC and that you can rent points from a member. How exactly does this work? I know it is too late for our April trip, but say it was not, and we needed a room for 4 nights. When I see it advertised say 100 points at $10/point, that would be $1000, right? Are there any additional taxes? Does 1000 points get your a different amount of nights at the different DVC resorts? Thanks -this looks like you could get a great deal but I am wondering if I am missing something!

Renting is a great deal but there is alot of trust involved. The renter has no control over the reservation and Disney is not involved in the transaction. There have been many happy renters from these boards.

At the top of this page, just under the timeshare store heron logo is a link to point chart for DVC resorts. You can use those charts to dermine how many points you'll need for a vacation, point requirements do vary from resort to resort.

There are no additional taxes or fees, except for park tickets or Disney Dining Plan, if desired. The DVC member always has control of the reservation, so be sure to find an owner you are comfortable with, and for whoim you have contact info (address, phone number, email, etc). If the deal goes sour, your only recourse may be small claims court, as DVC will not become involved, renting is a private transaction between you and the owner...just like renting a private vacation home offsite would be.

Technically, the points are useless to you. You ask the member to make a reservation for you using their points. You can pay them by the reservation or by the number of points. But it is up to the member. They make all the rules for renting their reservation.
