Question about refillable mugs

I guess I should have just asked if they fit in a regular cup holder but as you described it, it sounds like they do. I just didn't know if it would be worth it for me to get one for my younger son too. My 7yo drinks sprite or 7up and will probably drink from the frozen coke machine thing if it works so I can see him getting his money's worth out of it, but my 3yo only drinks water or pediasure. He won't drink soda so I am not sure if it is worth 12 dollars for him. Maybe I could just find a cup around here for him to use on the trip. Thanks. We will be there about a week I think.

We always get the refillable mugs, but never take them to the park. For some reason, I didn't think the security at the park entrance would allow you to take a mug of liquid into the park. But since I was obviously wrong......I love the idea of taking the mugs to the park and putting my leftover lunch or snack beverage in it, to keep it insulated. Tell me....will they let you take any kind od mug, large or small (disney or not) on the buses and into the parks??

Okay, I am sold! I am definitely going to buy one of these mugs! The memories are wonderful, and I never even thought of using it at home to bring my coffee to work! I will definitely be buying one of these on each trip we make to WDW!

Do the designs of the mugs change year to year? So, if we were to go back again in a couple of years and stay at the Pop, would I get to buy a mug with a different design on it?

Frozen Coke sounds great, but honestly, the coffee is a great deal. I love good coffee, but I can handle some that doesn't taste great to get my morning caffeine fix. We were having some coffee issues anyway, since there are no coffee makers in the rooms at the POP. So maybe what I will do is fill up the refillable mugs with coffee the night before, and place it in the refrigerator in the room (we're requesting a fridge anyway for the $10/night) and have iced coffee in the morning quickly before heading to the parks! We are doing breakfast in the room (bringing cereal and milk with us for fast breakfasts and to avoid crowds in the food court) the 3 mornings we do not have ADRs for character breakfasts and will need coffee before heading out!

We have actually taken our mugs back year after year and no one has ever told us we had to buy a new one! If you frequent the world and stay in the same places, the mugs are worth it!

:sad2: The rules of the refillable mugs are that they are only good for the length of stay that they were purchased in. This issue has been STRONGLY debated on these boards.

When we stayed at the Pop, the frozen coke machine kept breaking down. But I agree, the cleaning station at the fountain area worked great. My kids loved the hot chocolate in the morning!

We brought along one of those big cups from Great American and filled it each morning with ice and water from the fountain area before heading out to the park. We had a stroller so it worked great. We brought some bottles of water along to refill it and then asked for ice at the counter if we needed more.

Although no one said anything, I always felt strange. I shouldnt' have, since water is free. We still did it, and no one said anything, but I usually had my husband do it instead. He's oblivious to everything except people honking. (He thinks every time someone honks a car horn, they're honking at him. :confused3 )

I am certainly going to buy a mug this year.

Anytime you need ice in the parks, just ask. It is free, free, free. I always get ice and as it melts we drink the water. It is free for all you want. No need to lug ice around with you, just ask for a cup of ice in the park!!

Totally OT - Rachelsmom, that picture in your signature is BEAUTIFUL!

We've always gotten coffee and kids drinks first thing in the am while we're getting ready. Then we leave the mugs in our rooms and refill when we go to the pool in the afternoon.

Any kind as long as it is not glass.

One thing about washing the mugs - if you go from coffee to something else - be careful to wash the lid carefully. It kind of has two layers and coffee flavor gets trapped in there, so your soda tastes like coffee.

Pop also has apple juice at the soda fountain. Some places also have diet lemonade.

If you don't have a stroller, carrying around a mug all day is a pain. Though I've seen folks hook 'em inthe straps of their backpack. Conversely, if you are at a moderate, walking your mug back to the room after breakfast is a good way to lose valuable time in the morning.

I like to send DH to get coffee in the am while I dry my hair. It gives him something to do, and we're both happy.

I do find it a bit funny that folks are willing to drink out of an unsanitized mug all week to save a few dollars. I think the program is ingenious on the part of Disney. It reduces waste, reduces washing, and people LOVE it. I'd be careful in the heat if you are drinking sugary soda in it all day, leaving it in the heat...rinsing it will only help so much.. Might be a good idea to use some antibacterial soap.

Has anyone purchased a mug in 08 yet? Im just wondering if the design has changed from the YOAMD mugs. We will be leaving in 8 days (YAY!!!) so I guess I could just wait to find out and let it be a surprise lol.

slightly OT, but during our last stay at ASmusic I saw a kid (about 11-12 years old) fill up a big plastic popcorn bucket with soda! He had a real smug look on his face, and I could only help think that both he and his parents were ok with it and knew they were pulling a fast one.

We were stayling in B'way which is a bit of a walk, and I would have loved to tote back more then my mug worth of ice tea back to the room. But I tend to play by the rules. :)

We used them 24/7. We even took them to the parks. And bought ice and powerade/water to keep us hydrated since we don't like lukewarm drinks There's a sink with soap next to the drink fountains to wash out your mugs.

Actually not all the Resort counter service locations have that. I know Captin Cook's at the Polynesian has it, however I know Gasparilla Grill & Games at the Grand Floridian does not have it.

Yup - I cleaned mine out in the bathroom at GG&G after we ate there since there wasn't a mug wash station there.

I use my mugs at home all the time - I love thinking back to our previous trips every time I use one.

The mugs have changed in the last year from being resort specific to a generic YOAMD themed mug at almost all of the resorts. At this point they are still selling the same mug as last year but without the year on it. But who knows what will happen a couple years from now, although it did take a while for them to change mug designs at the resorts - I have a number of the same mugs from the same resorts from when they didn't change the designs.
