I am such a novice compared to all of you on this board, but you all inspire me to get out my camera and enjoy taking pictures. Anyway, I have one of the $20 Energizer Battery Chargers that comes with 4 AA batteries. Do these wear out? I have had it about a year but now it seems like my batteries will not hold a charge. Can you recommend a better one?

Thanks,
Karen

The Sanyos are known to be very good batteries. The Maha Powerex ones are also very well respected.

The real important part is to get a good charger. One that has an individual circuit for each cell is also important. Duracell has one that I bought from Wally World a few months ago that seems to be working well. If I had the money, I would have bought the Maha one though.

I agree with seperate charging
but another point is that quick chargers are not the best for long battery life. if you have the 15 minute recharge the batts will not last as long (overall life) Look for an 8 or 14 hour charger.

I have Energizer AA Rechargable batteries and yes, they tend to wear out in about a year or so. It depends on the number of charges you do. I've read where batteries are supposed to be good for about 250 charges.

Definately get a charger that has independent circuits for each battery. That way the each battery is filled and it will also tell you when each battery is finished.

Another thing I've found useful is the 'trickle' charge. This keeps adding a tiny amount of power to the battery even when the charge is done. It's to avoid battery drain that happens if recharged batteries are left unused.

I have a maha and a Sony charger. I like the maha better. The one I have now is no longer made, but Maha has a bunch of new ones. For lots of battery information try Steve's Digicam site (http://www.steves-digicams.com/)
