Question about Quick Service Dining Plan

I had already booked a trip for next June and bought our park tix before the price went up and the new dining plans were announced. Now I'm beginning to think about adding the QSDP, but will have to buy at least one park ticket in order to qualify.

Here's the deal. My in-laws are coming with us but will only spend three nights, while we plan to stay on for eight more nights, and we have yet to buy their park tix as they will only buy 2-day tix. Can I purchase two 2-day tix in order to qualify for the QSDP and then let my in-laws use them for their two days in the parks?

I realize that the tickets are non-transferable, but is there any way that they would be able to tell who is using the tickets as long as my in-laws use them their entire stay? In other words, as long as we don't change the tix from one party to the other from one day to the next?

Thanks for any help you can give on this, Tromba

Though their ticket will be on your KTTW card, there shouldn't be any problem for someone else to use it, as long as the same person uses both days on the same card.

You have to buy the Dining Plan for everyone on the reservation for the entire length of the reservation. If you are staying 11 nights you will be required to buy at least a 1 day ticket for 4 Adults and pay for the DP for 4 Adults for 11 nights. The only way to shorten this is to book two reservations one that includes the 4 adults and the other just the two. You are still required to buy those tickets for 4, but now you don't have to have the DP for all 11 nights.

Honestly I don't see the big deal of the QS plan for your group.

OK. Either you don't understand what I'm doing, or I don't understand what I'm doing!

1. Are you saying that I have to buy a 1-day ticket for EACH adult in my party or just 1 ticket for the entire party in order to get the QSDP. And if the former is true, why only the adults and not the kids?

2. There are not four adults in my party. My family (2 adults and 2 kids) are on one reservation, and my in-laws (2 adults) are on another. I would buy the park ticket(s) on my reservation and let my in-laws use them. That was my original question.

3. I don't want to shorten it. I want the QSDP for the entire length of my stay, 11 nights, for my entire family (2 adults, 2 kids).

4. Why wouldn't the QSDP be a good deal for my family? I just added up a day at AK, using Deb's menus and prices. I calculated lunch at Yak & Yeti CS and dinner at Flame Tree with two snacks thrown in. The dining plan would cost us $77.96 while OOP for the same items would cost $95.80. Plus we would all buy a couple of soft drinks as well during the day, especially during hot weather. The refillable mug would take care of this and more. Considering past eating habits of my family at WDW this would be normal food consumption for one day. How could this not be a good deal?

I welcome all discussion. If I'm wrong let me know!

Tickets are non-transferable. However, my understanding is tickets are only non transferable once they have been activated by a guest.
So if you just wanted to buy two two-day passes for each of them to solely use, I believe you can do that. You just could not buy (as example) a 10-day ticket and let one of them use two of the ten days.
I (obviously) have not used the QSDP, and probably won't. (Just personal preference for table service meals.) I agree the quick service DP can be a good deal. Even usual QSM are not what I consider thrifty, and this way you have your meal prices locked in place, so to speak.

You understand exactly what I want to do. I already have 10-day tickets for my entire family (2 adults, 2 kids). Bought them from Undercover Tourist just before the rates went up. These extra tickets would only be for the in-laws, not us.

That said, what about my question about the number of tickets? Will two 2-day tickets do, or will I have to buy a ticket for each member of my party (2 adults, 2 kids) to get the dining plan?

every person in your party needs the same type of ticket to get the ddp. Be it a one day base or a 10 day hopper

You can - while tickets are non-transferable, completely unused tickets ultimately "belong" to the first persons to use them. You can even go over to Lobby Concierge after you check in and have 'your' two-day tickets removed from your room key and issued as separate tickets.

BUT - since Guests purchasing a Dining Plan package are required to include the same tickets for each person in their party, you will also have to buy two-day tickets for each of your kids. These do not start to expire until they are used for park admission. Put them away somewhere safe; use them for a subsequent trip. Keep in mind, though, that you'll probably never even out the tickets.

Just wanted to add that if I am reading this section right you are planning to use your refillable mugs in the parks. Can't do this. Refillable mugs are for the resort you are staying at only. Except for the drinks that come with your meal you would have to pay OOP for your additional drinks in the park or use your snack credits. Hope this helps

What is here is correct Tromba. I did not realize you had bought your tickets separate already. I should have realized when you mentioned you bought your tickets before the price increase.
At this point I think your best bet is to just stay with your room only and separate tickets. To make what you have into a WDTC package with a dining plan would end up being more expense, and I think hassle.
Yes, you can keep some of your passes for later, etc. But you would be paying more out just having to buy the same type pass for everyone in your party, and just to get the counter service dining plan.

And as mentioned, the refillable mugs are for your resort stay only. You could use them in the parks at drinking fountains, etc, and maybe free ice occasionally. But not hardly worth carrying around for.

We read this a lot on the Dis where guests book a room only and then discount tickets elsewhere, with the intention of adding a dining plan. Unfortunately unless one of the adults is a WDW AP-er or DVC member, tickets need to be purchased for a WDTC dining package.
What you have is a room only and separate tickets, and neither are through WDTC.

Hmm. . . Well, I guess I'll have to really crunch some numbers then, to see if this will be cost effective. Since the two adult tickets will be used (and ultimately paid for) by my in-laws, it would only be the cost of the two kids tickets that I would have to absorb. It still might be worth it if I can save $15 to $20 per day over OOP, over the course of 11 days. Thanks for the info about the refillable mug. Haven't seen that spelled out in any of the announcements about the QSDP.

why not only add on a one day ticket to your exsisting reservation for 2 adults and 2 kids. give those adult days to the inlaws and save the kids days for a future visit. or If the tickets are not "owned" by someone until it's first use as well as the experation dates you could save those 2 kids 1 day tickets and give them (sell) to friends or relatives for their upcoming trip. You can always apply old unused tickets with new tickets to create a new larger ticket (guest services or conceirge desk). Thus during this stay your 2 one day adult tickets and 2 childs tickets can after check-in be turned into hard tickets not on your room key (2 min at the concierge) the in laws now have one day tickets each and before the end of the day of use can upgrade those to a 2 day ticket. Yes you are out the 2 kids tickets in advance but there are many options on using those.

OP - No where in your original post were kids noted (I went back and checked the post and signature before responding the first time). So I just commented regarding you and the inlaws. Also it wasn't mentioned that your in laws were on a separate reservation.

Your example of the refillable mug doesn't apply. You only get to refill the mug at Fort Wilderness. Those mugs are never refillable at a park (ie. AK). So in AK you'll either need to bring a drink (say bottle of water) or use those snack credits to buy them.

Sorry I wasn't helpful, but I was working with my limited knowledge and the info in your post.

Good luck deciding and planning.

I just wanted to make sure the OP also understood that multiple tickets cannot be combined or applied into one ticket. The trade up is 1:1. Meaning that each ticket can be upgraded. Although (as an example) two one day tickets cannot be combined towards one ticket.
