Question about purchasing a Preferred Annual Pass...

I might purchase the preferred AP to get the Hotel Discounts at Universal. On the website they have it for $190. I would pbbly buy it with flex pay since there is no interest charge. Will the Preferred AP be activated the day I start making my payments, or will it not be activated until we arrive the first day at Universal? Trying to figure out if I should just go ahead and buy it now. Also, will a voucher be enough to book a Universal Hotel with the AP rate or will I have to give them an actual AP number? Thanks!

It activates the first day you USE it - tell them you have the AP, they will require it at check-in, but sometimes they don't even check
