Question about purchasing a Magic Band

My son wants to purchase a Star Wars Magic Band rather than use the one that comes with our reservation. So how do I do this? Do I still customize one for him on MDE? Should we order the one that he is buying from Disney before selecting our colors on MDE?? Confused....

I would go ahead and customize the one for him on MDE. It's not an either/or situation - he can use both interchangeably and the one with the reservation is free.

And how long do they last?? I'm guessing it's some type of a battery in them?? We are going again in June 2017 so I am hoping he can use it again?

Yes. All active MB he has on MDE will work.

Yes it should be fine. Predicting 3 years but no known yet. NOW the only part with the battery that will die is the active RFID which is what picks up photos and some of the new/upcoming interactive like the names at end of HM and Small World. The passive RFID (NO battery) works the tickets, room key, charging, dining plan, fast pass etc.

Order the one with the room, it's always good to have a backup with you anyway in case of glitches.
