I saved a design in layers and when I go to change the lettering, I select text tool and select the layer, but when I click on it, it opens up a new layer instead of selecting the type (does this make sense?). What am I doing wrong???

I am not positive but it may be that you "simplified" the text at some point. Once the text is simplified it cannot be edited. Can you just redo the text layer and hide the one that you can't edit?

When it opens up the new layer, can you still put the text on it?

If so, you are doing nothing wrong. You want everything on it's own layer. It makes it much easier to move things around to where you want them.

I hope I understood your question and this helps!

Oh, I think I did misunderstand - I think this answer may be better.
If you have already made the text layer, in order to change it do this...

select the text layer (with the top left arrow looking tool highlighted)
after selecting the layer (when the box is around the text), right click on the box and choose edit text. Then everything in the box will highlight and you can change as you wish.

Thanks for your help. Apparently it has to do with the ones that I did in other versions of Photoshop. I have Photoshop 5 and tried Photoshop CS3 and now am trying Photoshop Elements 6. Crossing from CS3 to Elements 6 isn't seemless, it seems. Thanks again.
