Question about pop??

We are going to WDW in March and are staying at POP. We will not have a car there and will be using the disney transportation. I have 2 boys that are 5 and 2.

Is there a special building that you recommend?? We have a preferred room booked but I have no idea what that means. Do I need to call and request anything special??

Hello! We just got back from 5 nights at POP (Dec. 19-24). We loved it! It is such a fun resort. We did not have a preferred location. We stayed in the 50's section and had about a 5 minute walk to the food court/bus area. If I understand the preferred location thing, it just means you are closer to that area. There are some sections that are less than a minute away. I really don't think you can go wrong because it doesn't seem to be a huge resort. My only concern would be if you want your children to nap during the day or go to bed early at night I would definitely request a quiet location. We requested a 4th floor (so no one would be walking around over our heads) quiet location and they put us in a 4th floor room that was away from the elevator and the stairwell - sort of half way in between. We could see the pool but were far enough away that noise was not an issue. ALso I would suggest that you bring something that makes "white noise". We brought two air cleaners (Both of our kids have asthma so that's something we tend to tote with us anywhere we go). I feel like it really helped drown out any noise from outside. I also stayed in the 50's building this last September, we were in the building with the tramp statue on the 3rd level. It was a very convenient walk to buses/food court. I believe the preferred buildings are right across the way from the 50's in the 60's section near the pool, which didn't seem much closer to me.

If you can rent a car do it!! I had a 14 month old on this trip and we used the busses, it was hell. Waits were unacceptable with a baby (had it been just me and dh as was in our trips in the past, I probably wouldn't have noticed, but with a kid, it's a pain to have to wait 15 to 20 minutes for every bus, plus the busses were packed). Also, the bus stops aren't shaded/sheltered and that is also a concern.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay at POP but I will rent a car next time.

Thanks so much!! That was helpful. Both of my boys have asthma too! So that is a good idea to bring.
I think I will call and ask for a room that is a little quieter. My 5 year doesn't nap, but the 2 year old will be napping each day (or at least we hope he will).

We stayed there in Sept, preferred room, and had two kids in strollers. We just wanted to be near the food court for coffee runs, and the bus stop. We were in the 70's building but were on the second floor so every time we left with a stroller we had to walk to the center of the building for the elevator. It was a pain. So for me, from now on the main thing will be preferred ground floor.

I was just at the Pop from the 8th-15th of December and loved it! Best advice I can give you is try to use the food court and buses at times slightly off from the norm.

Buses at 7:30-8:00am were half empty - by 9:30 there is a line.

Food court at 4:00-4:30pm was really slow - by 5:30 it was a zoo,

Thanks so much for all the info. We have ADR character breakfast meals most mornings we are there, so we will be up and out bright and early. Hopefully the lines for the buses will be short at that time. Most of our breakfast times are 8:30.

We also stayed in the 50's, 4th floor, lakeview, standard room. The lakeview takes you away from looking out on the pool and therefore the room was very quiet and would be good for your boys. The added bonus is you can see the fireworks from some of those rooms and if the boys are into bed early you might still see the fireworks in the distance from your balcony. I liked the lakeview because after the hustle and bustle of the day it was sooo quiet and peaceful. Good luck

Some of the closer buildings have both standard and preferred rooms. Preferred is more expensive but not much.

Keep in mind that what you think is "preferred" and what Disney shows and says is "preferred" are not the same thing. We paid for a preferred room for our September vacation and ended up on the back side of the 60's = 3rd floor - with a view of nothing. Far away from the pool, food court, bus and elevator - so to me it was not preferred and not worth the extra money...JMHO.......... There are quite a few websites that will show you the layout of the preferred rooms at POP. I think that WILLCAD has some great links in his postings that helped me after I got back & after I'd written WDW CRO to complain. Also found POP was not as quiet as it had been on previous vacation with lots of unruley & unsupervised kids running up & down the halls after 10pm at night & alot of just plain rude guests. While there's tons of things we like about POP, we're trying ASMu this time for someplace hopefully much quieter.
