So we are alittle worried about the chance of losing our pictures off of the memory card from our DL trip each day and so we would like to be able to upload them onto a computer every couple of days.. Does anyone know walgreens or any other stores can do this? We know that Kinko's can but they charge .40 a minute to use computer and that can add up fast... we just really dont want to go out a buy a laptop unless we HAVE to...

Ruthie,

I'll be staying at the HoJo the same time as you, although we leave a bit earlier than you do (leaving on the 15th). I could meet you at night in the lobby, and copy your photos to my laptop's hard drive as a backup. Then, when I get home, I can burn a CD with your photos on it, and mail it to you.

Or, we could go over to the HoJo's computer, and see if it is possible to use it to upload your photos to a photo-sharing website like Flickr. Or maybe I can do that with my laptop - what type of memory card does your camera use? CompactFlash (CF)? SecureDigital (SD)? MemoryStick (Sony)?

This would have to be after I get my family put to bed on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday night. We could try one last time on Saturday morning, but not Friday night (parks are open late).

But this isn't really all that necessary. There's really no way to "lose" the pictures unless you lost the camera/card. Pictures have to be purposely deleted from the flash memory in order for them to be gone. I only download my pictures to the computer when I'm running out of room on the card. Still, if it gives you some peace of mind, I can help.

There is the Photo Center (I'm not sure of the exact name) at the end of Main Street by the hub. I have never used them for anything, but maybe you can contact them to see if they offer any services that might help.

If your camera accepts USB or if it has a USB cable go can load to a USB drive or there are many storage devices that you can purchase that you can load to.

Wow thank you soooooo much for that offer... I just might have to take you up on that offer... WOW that is soooo sweet.... We do have a USB cable and not sure the type of memory stick (not my department)haha... But it is a new cannon camera and new memory stick that can hold TONS of pictures...

Hey! I just realized that we too are going to be there at the same time!
Let the packing begin!!!

I'm not sure why you're worried you're going to lose pictures. If your card holds tons of pictures, they should be safe and sound on there. I certainly wouldn't delete them off of there unless you've made 2 good copies on CD or DVD, or at least one CD copy and a second copy on your PC hard drive. I never delete a picture from my camera until I have 2 backup copies.

If you card doesn't hold enough, then get a bigger card. If you think you might take so many pictures your card will get full, then get a second back up card.

I have taken 10 day vacation trips and just kept all my photos on one card (I think it holds well over 350 photos). Then dealt with it when I got home.

Not to play the "anti" here but flash memory can be corrupted just like all memory. Static electricity or just simply removing the card from the camera has a possibility of corruption. I take about 500-700 snaps a day when at DLR and use multiple cards just in case something goes wrong..accidently drop the camera..there goes the memory. I have found that downloading at every possible opportunity is probably the best bet, all in all, take many pictures as you can, some actually do turn out better than you think.

Don't jinx me Jack. :) CD's and DVD can also be corrupted too. So far I'm having 100% success with my memory card.

well thanks for everyone for your offers and advice... but DH found a great deal on a laptop and so now we are set!!
