Question about photo packages...

Hi everyone,

We're planning to cruise on the Fantasy again in September 2016 in a huge group of 16 in at least 7 staterooms.

On our last cruise, we were told by shutters that we couldn't buy 1 photo package (which was charged to 1 stateroom) and choose photos without 1 person from that stateroom being present in that photo... Which we weren't too happy with because of the expense of it all.

I was wondering if any other groups has faced this problem, because we're thinking about mixing up people in staterooms to get around this restriction so that we can buy, say, 2 photo packages and everyone will be free to choose photos as part of the package...

Any advice/experiences shared would be appreciated! Thanks :)

The full CD must be purchased by each room, if you want everyone's photos on a CD.

The only exception is when there are 2 rooms with one nuclear family (mom and kid(s) in one room, dad and kid(s) in the other). Then Shutters will put both rooms on one CD.

The other option is (last I knew), if one room purchases the full CD, a second room can purchase it for 50% off. I'm unsure whether each 50% CD must be accompanied by a full CD purchase (so three full CDs for three 50% off ones)or if, as long as one room does the full CD, all subsequent ones (in a group) will be 50% off. I rather imagine it's the first option.

But, yes, if only one room purchases the CD, only those photos taken with at least one person from that room in them will be on the CD. The only way your plan (purchase 2 CDs) would work would be if at least one person from whichever rooms purchased the CDs were in all photos. And, then if say, room A person (who purchased a CD) was in a different photo than room B (who also purchased the CD) only those photos with room A person in them would be on room A's CD (not room B's). Was that clear?

From the experiences others have explained, you can possibly get away with purchasing less CDs. We are traveling with extended family, in three staterooms. My nephew is in my parents' room rather than his parents room, so due to the face recognition software, any pictures that either my parents or my nephew are in SHOULD show up on my parents' CD. Then my husband & I will purchase a 2nd CD at a discounted rate for all of our pictures that don't include my parents or nephew. This is what I've gathered from other people's experiences, NOT what Shutters will tell you. They will say I need 3 CDs, but from everyone else's experiences that I've read about, it's not the shutters people, or your room key that gets your pictures to your account, but the facial recognition software that "organizes" the pictures. So what you're saying MAY work. We're gonna try in Oct, so I can report back if it works.

Just an opinion, I do wish Shutters (or whomever is in charge) would do group pricing so people would not have to purchase 7, $350 packages that will have quite a bit of overage on them. We even run into trouble with this because it is me and DM and DS and friend in 2nd stateroom. They don't consider us "nuclear" since everyone is over 18.

The closest that you can get currently, is to purchase the largest (usually 20 photos) print package. With that one, you can pick whatever photos you want, regardless of room. That's what we did on our cruise where we were in 3 rooms. You could purchase two 20 photo packages (one for each room) and mix and match the photos as you want (40 photos total).

Hi MissMet,

I'm really interested to see if this works, so I'd be so grateful if you could report back.

Thanks :flower3:

From what you have explained thai is what I gather:

You have 3 staterooms:
Your family
Your parents and nephew
Nephews parents

You will be purchasing two CDs. Your room and your parents. Because nephew is in your parents room any photos with him in it will be on your parents CD.

But, I imagine, that any photos with only nephew's parents in them (without nephew) would not be included.

Correct. Luckily, my brother & SIL aren't really into taking photos of themselves so there would be minimal pictures with them without my nephew...actually there probably won't be a single one. They're real party-poopers in that regard. :)

You got it. My cruise is Oct 17-24th so sometime after the 24th, if I didn't remember to get back to you, PM me with a reminder. :)

Thanks so much for everyone's input, the number of people joining our group cruise just seems to be on the rise, so fingers crossed this will work!

I need to make sure I got this straight! My husband and I are in one stateroom, my ds, ddil and dgs are in another. No one wants any photos unless DGS in in them, so even if we have all five of us in a photo, they will show up is the room with DGS and we can get cd for that room only?

How well it works -- and how many CDs will need to be purchased -- will depend on several variables. How many "nuclear families" are represented, how many staterooms, how split those families are across the various staterooms, and what pictures are of most importance (adults/children/all). As someone else mentioned above, if the primary photo interest is those with the kids and not receiving photos of other adults isn't going to be missed, then you can make it work by creatively mixing up the group across staterooms. If you really are trying to capture all photos of anyone in the group, the BOGO offer is likely your best bet.

Enjoy your cruise!

Correct. If you have all 5 of you in the picture, it will be assigned to both staterooms. If you purchase the CD for the stateroom with your DGS, you'll get any photos that include at least one person from that stateroom; you will not get any photos of just you and DH, alone or as a couple.

Enjoy your cruise!
