Thanks everyone for their help on my other post about heat pumps. Now I have another question, what about Payne heat pumps?I was told that they are made by Carrier, does anyone know if this is true and also has anyone used a Payne befoe? Thanks for any help.

It is true. Payne is made by Carrier. DH has his own AC company. He sells/installs them, and has never said anything negative about them.

My understanding is that Payne is essentially Carriers lower end units. That said the reviews have been positive and units lasting just fine at a lower cost than the Carrier units.

I replaced mine in 2007. I got lucky. My existing unit was a SEER 10 unit which by federal mandate could not be made after Jan. 2006. My AC installer searched and was able to find a new SEER 10 in left over stock. Otherwise I would have had to go to a SEER 13 unit which means replacing the exchanger as well and doubling my cost. Total cost for new unit labor included was $2300.

I prefer Trane over the other brands but Payne is certainly not a bad brand to go with.
