Question about paying for package plan

I have always booked room only and you pay when you check in. You reserve with your credit card but it is not charged at that time.
When you book a package when do they put the charge on your credit card? I am considering booking on Disney Visa if free dining is offered and want to make sure nothing else is on that card when the charge goes thru so I can take advange of the free financing for 6 months. Also I am wondering how long I will have to save up for the trip before I have to start paying for it. I never carry a balance. Should I just quit using the card right now?

On a room-only reservation,you pay the first night's deposit and the rest on check-in.

You don't have to stop using your card. Go ahead and book with the Disney Visa. You have 6 months to pay with no interest charges. They will show on a separate summary the amount that is subject to no interest. Just make sure to pay an amount greater than or equal to the balance less the Disney vacation every month and you won't incur any interest charges.

I did this last year and this year with no problems.

When you back a package, you have to pay a $200 deposit immediately, with the remaining amount on the package due 45 days prior to the start date of your trip.
