I know you have to put your credit card on the account to do online check in. We don't want to use our credit card while we are there. Can we go to Check in counter when we get there and ask them to take charging off? Or I guess we can just leave it and not use the bands for charging.

You have to have a credit card on the account. You can just not charge. But the card is also there for if you decide to go rock star on your room, not just for charging.

I'm pretty sure there's a button (use this card for incidentals). Leave it blank. (it's been a long time since I stayed onsite though, I know one of the trips I did not allow room charges)

I know that in the past when I've just checked in at the desk I've never put a credit card down. They ask if I want to charge and I've always told them no and haven't had to show our credit card. I know it won't let me do online without it though.

Ok, so I went ahead and put the information in and did online check in. I figuare that we just wouldn't use our bands to purchase anything. Since we've only done check in when we've gotten there can someone help with how online check in works? This is how I think it works: We'll get a text letting us know that our room is ready and where it is. When we get there we just go to the room and use our new magic bands. I then can go to Concierge to pick up birthday button. Is this correct?

Just don't use your magic band for charging and don't be a no show for dining reservations and nothing will be charged to your credit card on file.
I always do online check in and then if I decide to use my credit card I just use the credit card vs my magic band.

Yes and no, online check in does not guarantee that you will always get your room assignment prior to physically checking in, it will either A-text/email you that your room is ready prior to arrival and then you head there as planned and open the room with your MB OR B-you can bypass the line inside the lobby and wait in the online check in line which is usually shorter than traditional check in. I have never had to do B but know a few ppl on here that have had to do that b/c rooms weren't ready upon arrival. So while I think in most cases, A is what typically happens, I learned that it's not guaranteed. A handful of posters were very disappointed about that. And yes, you can get your button in the lobby.

Yes, you'll receive a text with you room number. It'll also provide you a link (and you can also look on your MDE) to help you navigate your resort if need be. It's helpful. As for the button, you can either get it at the front desk or get it in a theme park.

I will also add that Option B occurred when the resorts were more crowded than usual. I wish I knew the nuances of how the alert messages/emails are sent but we have received our emails around noon on check in day but these were not very crowded times. Wish they had a standard protocol of when messages would be sent based on a 3pm check in time.

Did you maybe quote the wrong person?
Just not sure what room ready messages have to do with my post.

A is not totally true. A text is not always sent. We have received one about 50% of the time.
There is a standard protocol as to when texts are generated. That is when your room is ready. That could be 7AM or 5 PM. Texts are not sent until the room is ready and can be accessed.

Agree, that's what I mentioned, you don't always get the alert, the only guarantee with online check in is that you will get to stand in the online check in line inside the lobby which should be shorter than the traditional check in line

Thanks everyone for the help. We've been going to Disney for years and staying on property. We've just never taken advantage of the online check in. Decided why not and will try it this time. Thanks again for all the help.
