Question about MYW tickets

We are planning to take a WDW trip in a few years, staying off site. I am slowly saving for it. If I bought the tickets at the end of this year WITH the expiring option, would they still be good in 2009 if I never use them before that? I don't quite understand what the expiring options means. If it means that they expire 13 days after the 1st use or if I buy them now they expire on some date in the near future. I just figure prices will keep going up and if we have enough to buy them this year that it would save us some $$.

Expiring tickets are good indefinitely until you first use them. Your first day of use is day #1, and they expire on day #14.

NancyIL is correct. I even called Disney last week to confirm the same thing. I thought I would buy my tickts for next year now just incase the prices go up. I don't need a package because I'm booking room only with my AAA discount.

Say if you purchase 6 day expiring hopper tickets this year and do not use them at all, then you come back to Disney in 2 years and only use 4 of the days,can you then buy the no expiration option at that time? The reason i ask is that we may do the dining plan this year and I know you have to buy tickets too, but we already have tickets saved from a few years ago that we plan on using for this trip.

Yes you can assuming that 1) you do it within 14 days of the first use of the ticket and 2) that the ticketing structure at Disney hasn't changed again and they still offer non-expiration as an option.

Remember too that the charge for adding no expiration will be based on the then-current rate of the original length of the ticket (6 days in your example) rather than just the 2 days you would have left unused. All in all, if you want to add the no expiration option, do it when you purchase it now. It will be cheaper for you than doing it in two years.

Deciding whether to buy non-expiration requires thought. It is a waste if all or almost all of a non-expiring ticket is used up in one sitting.

Meanwhile the rules and prices for adding non-expiration to old tickets are subject to change.

One thing that has not changed is that tickets have always been usable as-is for what they could have been used for when purchased.

You may want to also look into staying onsite. they now have a dining option which is a little more, but it gives you meals during the day including snacks. not sure exactly all of the details but disney.com has info about it.
