Question about my park hopper ticket?

I have one day left on a four day hopper. We are planning a trip in October with DD 3 and DH and myself. DD and I will be in the MK for one day next weekend with a local friend who will have a one day ticket. Should I save my hopper for our long trip since it's a hopper and just purchase a single day or should I just use my ticket. I am also thinking of purchasing an AP and using the hopper towards the pass in hopes of getting a room discount in October. Last year we went with the Disney Visa 7 for 4 which was amazing but I haven't heard any buzz on that package this year.
Thanks! (hope all this makes sense)

You have two very different decisions. First I would decide whether or not to purchase an Annual Pass. I don't really know what type of room discounts are available via an AP vs. other discounts, but you would want to calculate the difference you'll likely achieve. Based on historical observations, I would doubt that an AP would offer a sufficient advantage over other discounts to justify its purchase based on this alone - ultimately, I would buy an AP only if you think you'll be in the parks enough days for it to make sense relative to other types of ticket media.

If you decide not to get an AP, then your decision will depend on how many days you'll be in the parks on your next trip. The MYW passes contain a significant price break for purchasing more days, so it seems to me that your average cost per day between both trips you describe will probably be lower if you use the day you have left for your upcoming trip and then purchasing a longer pass for your longer trip. Plus this way you wouldn't have to keep track of that pass any more.

Hope this wasn't too confusing.

My gut feeling:

If you are actually visiting WDW for just one day on a particular occasion and have this ticket with one day left on it, use it up.

A new single day ticket for use now is going to cost you at least $50. (more if you cannot get a discount such as from AAA or by advance purchase). The old ticket probably has well under $50. of value if applied towards another ticket in October (or any time).

If you apply this old ticket to an AP for use now, the AP year starts ticking now whereas you will more likely be better off having the AP start ticking in October when your next big trip comes.

If you buy a multi day (magic your way) ticket now using your old ticket as part payment, you have to buy the non-expiration option to preserve the rest of the ticket for October. Whereas using the old ticket now, you may well get away with buying an expiring (normal) new ticket in October.

YOu will get more for your money by using your last day as is. It wouldn't really be worth it to put it toward another ticket or your AP. Also, the above OP is correct.... if you use your ticket toward a new MYW ticket, you would HAVE to have the non expiring option.
