Question about multiple contracts

We are DVC members with OKW as our home resort. We are thinking of buying a resale somewhere down the line (like in a couple of years).

If you have multiple contracts at the same resort, does member services consider them all one pool of points? For example if I have two 150 point contracts (300 total) and was making a reservation that used say 157 points, can they combine points for the last night (ie: 150 from A and 7 from B) or would they have to make each night a seperate contract (ie: 149 from A and 8 from B - if it is 8 points for the last night)

Do you have to do seperate banking/borrowing transactions for each contract?

If you combine points (as in the example above) do they consider that a "transfer" transaction? (only 1 per year)

Does it make a difference if the use year is the same or different?

Just wondering these things because, well I didn't know the answers.

If they are included in the same contract, MS will do exactly as you describe and combine the points for the reservation. If they are entirely separate contracts, it would require a transfer from one into the other ... BUT ... there have been cases where MS has allowed the points to be combined without a formal transfer for cruise reservations (I don't know if they will still do that however).

We have used two contracts a number of times for the same reservation and what MS usually suggests (and we have always done it this way) is to reserve whole nights using on contract and they will link them together into one reservation. We have done this countless times. In some cases it has even involved borrowing from the following year in order to make the reservation for one or more of the nights.

It never hurts to ask MS - and with the Year of a Million Dreams underway you'll never know what they are willing to do.

Good luck! :)

As Rob pointed out, the answer is it depends. As a rule DVC will combine multiple contracts of a single owner for the same use year under one master contract. And that's true in most cases even if one or both were bought resale. If they are under one master and for the same resort, they are treated as one contract for all purposes other than sales and the like. If under one master but different home resorts, the only difference is the applicable home resort priorities. For example, if you had 150 OKW & 150 VWL points, you would only have the home resort priority at 11 months for 150 pt for each location. Then at 7 months out, they would again act as one single contract. The banking percentages would be on the total points owned, a very helpful benefit IMO. If the use years are different OR the registration is different in ANY way, it would be like you were two different people with a couple of minor specialty circumstances.

We are going to do this with AKL as an add on by adding my daughter to a small add on and therefore making that add on a stand alone contract. Then likely sell part or all of our remaining points.
