We are going to be gone from a Saturday to Saturday.
Do you think 1300.00 will be enough for food and souviners and gas for a family of 4?
Im wondering if I should take more money or a credit card or something.

While $1300 might be more than enough (and I don't know, it depends on ages, eating habits, and how much you do or don't indulge your kids), make sure you take a credit card.

You never know if you are going to have to take a puking kid to a doctor or emergency room; or need to replace a blown tire; or have any other emergency that could kill your vacation by taking most of your cash. Even just getting a nail in the sidewall of a tire can be a very costly repair. It happened to me right after I bought my car, and we spent over $200 on a new tire (and I don't have a very expensive car - it was a standard SUV tire). That's about 15% of your total cash if you don't have a cc to pay for it.

The cc will make sure that you don't have to scrimp through the second half of your trip or waste a day waiting for someone to send you money via Western Union.

I would never travel w/o at least one cc.

As the PP said...depends on the ages of the kids...and how you eat...but $1300 should be plenty...more than enough.

I would consider putting some of the cash away and use your Credit Card...and pay the bill when you get back...just keep track of what you spend with the $1300 number on the CC.

Regardless you should travel with a Credit Card incase of an emergency.

I think you should bring a combo of both. But most definitly have a CC on hand for the emergencies!

Is it possible to set your spending limit when it comes to souveniers? Because then maybe go ahead and buy some gift cards to use.

And it's pretty possible to set a budget for food when you check out the menu's for Disney dining. It take a little bit of time but you can get an estimate of what you'll need for food.

We are taking that amount as well, but plan to eat in our condo for BF and dinners, so that should be enough for us. We ALWAYS take a credit card for emergencies...and heaven forbid we blow our money!!

I suggest bringing both with you!

We're headed for our first visit:cool1: in June... DS10:wizard:, DD6:cutie:, DH & myself. We have the Deluxe DP. 5 nights w/ one day in each park. Since food isn't an issue, how much should we bring? Is $500 enough?

Thanks guys, I feel better now. I usually have more money but this is a budget trip since the economy has played havoc on our financial situation. Im grateful we are even getting to go though. Thanks again.

We bring apx $250 per day for our family of 4. We use dinning. We also have a back up credit card of $1000 incase someone gets sick (Happened last year due to an ear infection) Each day we don't use all $250 we roll over to the next day. This way we have a budget we stick to. If we do well our last day is a blast as we usually have left over for extras. I don't go over board with spending but I figure if I'm going I'm at least going to enjoy it! Have a good trip!

We only bring $100-$200 in cash total for a week trip, and that is mainly for tips and food at the airport and the occassional snack cart. We charge everything else.

I would leave the cash at home and use your credit card. Keep track of your purchases daily to make sure you stay in your budget and then pay the card off when you get home. Much safer and then you have the card for a true emergency!

We bring cash but we always end up using the credit card because it's easier, both with not having to fumble for the cash, carrying the cash, and tracking the spending when we get home.

We use the disney visa at disney and then put the rewards points onto the rewards card and also use that at disney the next trip.

FWIW, our last trip, which was 4 days, cost us $900 for a family of four for food, gas and souveniers. 7 hour drive, each way.

The food was all counter service, except for one dinner at biergarten and one lunch at tusker house with the dvc discount (wasn't worth it, btw, won't eat at tusker house again).

We leave Friday, also driving down, and that is exactly what we are bringing too! We will be doing mostly CS meals, and a lot of eating in the condo.
