Question about Moleskin

OK, this is probably a stupid question but all along I have been thinking that Moleskin is used to cover a blister if/when one occurs - sort of like a Band Aid. But as I am packing for our trip and reading the Moleskin package (yes, I am one of those people who actually reads the directions) there is a "warning" on the package that says: "When using this product do not cover up blisters or broken skin. Cut pad in such a way that leaves those areas open." WHAT?

So, can someone enlighten me on exactly how to use this Moleskin stuff? Do I put it around a blister but not on it? Put it in the shoe? HELP!! :confused3

Thanks for helping this confused woman! Hopefully we won't even need this stuff but it would probably be good to know how to use it if we do.

hi
you apply it to places you feel you are getting a blister. if any area on your foot is hot and red at the end of the day, next day apply moleskin to that area and it will stop the friction. i always use duct tape, about $1 a large roll and just as effective :)

Thats where I went wrong... :rotfl: I kept slapping more on my blisters-by the end of the week I'd gone though 2 packs and I had a blister the size of a small caribbean island on my foot :teeth:

Yep, it's meant more for "hot spots" (areas that are starting to rub) rather than existing blisters.

I have had athletic training and I learned to make a "donut" out of moleskin to put on the blister (blister in the center). The moleskin takes the pressure off the blister in the center. Have had many tennis players play with blisters and donuts around them! Just be sure to take a pair of scissors along with your moleskin. Works like a charm!

That being said, wouldn't corn pads work as well? They are already cut out in the middle. I used bodyglide last year and for the first time had NO blisters! I swear by the stuff now.

Yes! I have used those too. They come in a variety of sizes. I have heard of bodyglide and am planning on checking it out. Can I find it at Walmart?

We always used bandaids(any type or brand) for deveolping blisters, full blisters, and for blisters that have popped, what is the benefit of moleskin over bandaids?

I buy the body glide at EMS any sporting store should sell it. I have not seen it at Walmart- but I guess you could check their camping area.
And on the moleskin- we use it as a preventative- my son always gets blisters on the back of his feet- so he puts on a piece before we go out- no blister.

Moleskin is thicker and can be cut to the desired shape you need. It now comes in varying thicknesses. The thickness, when used as a donut, takes the pressure off the blister and puts it on the surrounding area so you can walk with blisters!

Thanks for enlightening me, sounds very usefull!

MOLESKIN!!! God's gift to the troops. I was actually issued Moleskin in boot camp, and it saved my feet. You just cut a hole the size of the blister and put the moleskin AROUND the blister. If you slap the moleskin over the blister and then rip it off, it hurts...I found this out the hard way.

I don't know if I use the moleskin correctly or not but it sure worked great for me. I cut the size I needed (example enough to go around a toe or a square to put on the heel of my foot) before the blisters devopled. I usually get too many blisters to count but this time after spending 11 days walking around the parks I only got one blister and that wasn't in a common space so I hadn't put any moleskin on in that area.
I will never go to WDW again without moleskin!
Have fun!

You can also cut the moleskin and put it in your shoe (tape side down).....
where your foot is feeling like it is rubbing and this will also help
