Question about Mexicans

I have been very facinated with mexico recently. I have a question. It seems there is a mjor difference between the mexicans that live near the coasts and the one inland. I am referring to appearance only. I was in Cozumel and the girls had a much different look than the ones I seen in Northern Mexico. Compared to other latin countries, Mexico is large. Do different sections of that country look different than others?

Mexico is comprised of the decendants of many tribes/civilizations. Mayans, Toltecs, Aztecs,Zapotecs to name a few of the major influencial groups. All have different physical attributes that can be identified. There are still tribal languages spoken in Mexico too. Mexico is a country rich in culture and history.

Absolutely! This is from memory, and I might ahve a bit of it wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me if I do.

Some Anthrpologists believe that some residents of Mexico were remnants of the "Ten Lost Tribes of Isreal" or descendants of the Scythians, which explains the features of some Mexicans.

Most believe that the earliest Mexicans came across the Bearing Staight and Aleutian Islands from Asia and migrated down through North America. Some Anthropologists believe that some Mexicans are direct descendants of the early Mongolian conquerors. This explains the Asian-type features of many Mexicans.

Of course there is also European blood in Mexico, from the early Spanish conquerors and later European settlers and missionaries.

The last group has been traced to various North AMerican Indian tribes.

Definitely, my family is all northern, very dark skinned and more "indian" looking, there are a lot of places southern where they are fair skinned and even blonde hair and blue eyes is common...yet somehow they still look latin.

I was in Colombia after I visited Mexico for the first thime. The first Place I went in Mexico was Monterrey. At the Time the people in Colombia look very different than the Mexicans in Monterrey, but then when I went to Cozumel, the people there looked just like the people from Colombia.

It all depends on how much european blood is flowing through. My grandma and sister in law are from the souther portion of Mexico but, there is a huge difference in appearance. My grandmother is very light and has green eyes. My sister in law has the more darker skin, dark eyes, and more of the " indian look". I don't know any other way to describe it. Sorry, if that sounds rude.
