Question about medicaid for an adult?

Hello All, I have a question that I was wondering if anyone here could answer?

I have an adult age dd that needs adult diapers, and in order to get these I have to have a home health care provider come out to my home, every other month. I feel this is a huge waste, she comes out and takes her blood pressure and her temp. and ask the same few questions and then leaves, not really even worth the time or gas she spends to come all the way over to my home, plus we feel it's so inconvience for us as well, we never know what day she will pop up on, of course she does call first but what's an hour notice to get an unhealthy person ready for a visit.

My question is, in order to receive just the adult diapers do I have to have a home health care provider involved? Can't I just get an order from her doctor and let that be that? We live in NC, so does anyone know the medicaid rules here?

I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone and I have left a message with her doctor but it looks as if it might have gotten lost in the shuffle, and natually I don't want to ask the lady that comes out to my home, I don't want her to take it personally.

But honestly I feel bullyed by these people that comes out to our home and feel they can show up whenever and if they call and I say" not today", they tell me "ok I will just write it up"...what the heck is that, I feel like I'm in first grade.

TIA :flower3:

IDK but in nh I needed a dr.s prescription and took it to the pharmacy.

Can you call he local medicaid office?

Does your DD get home health aid services? If she does- the big nurse does need to come out every once in awhile for temp, pressure, and any of your concerns. BUT_there should be a schedule-notice of when she is coming.

Ok, thank you for your response I'm trying to find the medicaid number in my area now. Thank you!

Well, I edited to say that I found out that yes I do have to have a health care provider come out to receive any kind of supplies.

Thanks All!

You need to keep a note book log of whom you spoke, the agency, phone number and what they said. You have to be firm and clear with them. Also tell the agency in charge that you cannot handle a one hour notice and require the decency of 24 hour notice.

Check with the city and county for advocates and agencies that can help you understand her rights and what she is entitled to. If you belong to a medical group like Secure Horizons, AARP, Scan the you can contact them for help. I joined AARP at age 49 and they caught me so now I am a member, lol. They have lots of info there. There might be federal and state agencies that can also help you.

Keep records, know what to ask and how to ask it, and be firm. I am spending over $100 a month or more on Depends and she only wants that brand.

Thank you, I too was spending about 100.00 a month on adult diapers and would still run out... So I'm at least glad to have that resource.

I live in NY and only need a doctor's prescription for adult diapers for my DS and I send it to a company and they ship the diapers to me every month. They bill Medicaid directly. I think the maximum number of diapers I get a month is 240. I do not have to go to the drug store to pick them up at all. We also do not need a nurse to come out in our home and check on him. I think having a nurse come without appropriate notice is uncalled for. :cool2:
