Question about marriage license

Okay, I know this literally has been asked 89547038424232 times but I probably never paid close enough attention because I was like, "Oh, that's not until later!"

Well, ladies, later is here!! Holy cr*p!

So, I know I want to do it online/by mail but I don't know what websites are good for it - and I thought I remember reading somewhere that even if you submit it early, that they hold onto your application and submit it when it's time for you? How does it all work?

It's so crazy! Just a few months ago I was looking at all the big picture stuff and now it's all the odds and ends! Crazy!

We did ours online and started it in Feb for our wedding next week(!). I did it through Brevard County Clerk of Courts. http://199.241.8.125/index.cfm?FuseAction=MarriageLicenses.Home

Read that information, then click on Forms on the right, and open the PDF. That form is what you will send to Brevard County.
That form is a "Request for Marriage License Information", not the actual application.
They'll hold onto the completed form until closer to your wedding and then they'll begin the actual application process and mail it to you so that when you send back the application, they issue the marriage license within the same week so you're within 60 days of your wedding.
I hope that makes sense.

Here's our timeline of when we did it:
February - Sent the "Request for Marriage License Information" (we did it so early because we thought they would send the application right away and we would have to hold onto it and send it back within the 60 days before the wedding.)
Late June-Received a copy of the "Request", the actual application, and an affidavit. Both the app. and the affidavit have to be notorized, and then you send back ALL three documents, photocopies of your drivers licenses, and the application fee ($93.50 if you didn't do a pre-marriage counseling course, $61 if you did (by they're standards)).
And within one week we had our license!

How many people have used Brevard County to get their marriage license? Why is it so much cheaper than other places to get your marriage license?

If my wedding is in late May when should I start this process?

I used Brevard County.

The reason it is cheaper is because you are getting the license directly from the court, instead of paying a service $100 to get it from Brevard County for you. I'm really not sure why anyone would pay a service for this when you still have to do all the notarizing and mailing yourself.

For a May wedding, I'd contact them in March. The license is only valid for 60 days, so they don't like to start the process more than 2 months ahead. In fact, when you talk to them, make sure they know you will need to get the valid license in the mail before you leave for your trip - so even though your wedding date is a certain day, you will need the license X number of days ahead of time.
