Hey, I was hoping to get some planning help from people that live around Mammouth Caves or have been there.

We are planning on taking a trip there this summer. I think we are going to stay in the cabins at Jellystone park (nothing's booked yet). It will be my dh, me and our two kids ages 9 and 10.

My question is, how many days would you recommend staying to see the caves and do some other fun stuff around the area. We're thinking four nights, but didn't know if that was too much/not enough. I realize we could probably spend an entire week going through all the caves, but we don't necessarily want to see all of them. We're going to head over to Holiday World in Santa Claus Indiana for a few days at the end of the trip.

So, back to my question, how long should we stay? And any other recommendations would be great.

I wouldn't stay for more than 3 nights. We went back in 2006. We did 2 tours-you have to pay for them. It is really cool and the kids loved it and were a little scared at the same time. We didn't do anything else in the area, so if you want to you may want to stay longer.

If you are brave of heart and want to do some real caving go to Hidden River Cave, I believe it is in Horse City KY. (you can google the website-not sure of the address). I did this with my son's class and don't think I will ever forget it. You should take knee pads, and clothes that you don't care about. There are no steps, bathrooms or anything, it is true caving. Ofcourse, the age of your kids would come into play here. My son was middle school age when they went and he recently graduated. He still talks about it.

I would set aside a day to see Kentucky Down Under. It's a great family park with all sorts of animals and a neat little cave of their own.
Skip Guntown Mountain. None of us liked that (2 adults, 2 kids).

We've always found 3 or 4 days to be enough.

We like to spend 2 days at Holiday World, so take a day off of your time ar the caves and add it to Holiday World.

Oh, we are doing 2 days at Holiday World, one for the waterpark and one for the amusement park.

Thanks for all the info everyone!!
