I am having a devil of a time getting a site that will allow linking the photo to this site. Just how much strain is it on the other site to link a photo to this site? Is the bandwidth only used as someone is actually viewing the thread or is bandwidth used by just the fact that there is a link in a thread? I'm asking this because the last site (Dotphoto.com) that I used keeps deleting the photos I post and customer support from that site asked me to what "type" of message board did I have the photo linked. What "type" of message board is this? What are they talking about?

The bandwidth is only used when someone views the thread with the image if it is a hotlink or hits the link that you posted. Of course if it is in your signature, it is pulled from that site any time anyone opens a thread that you've started or to which you've posted a reply. This can add up pretty quickly.

Take a thread on the CB for example. In just a few hours time, it is not at all uncommon for a thread to be read 100 - 200 times. If it is known to have pictures (we all love the pictures) it can easily get twice that in 2-4 hours depending on the number of people online.

<font color=navy>Then I guess that you could tell them, Carl, that this is a very popular board. :)

I have started using my own AOL space to put up pictures, and am planning on rotating them as posts fall to the back pages.

After reading previous replies is that why my image appeared once in my signature and is now gone again. Our ISP is Prodigy and I am linking to a clipart photo on our personal web page provided by the isp as suggested by BobBrazeal. It worked great, onceeeeeeeeeee! Now it just shows the hotlink to the photo. At the time the clipart photo appeared my signature had different fonts. I thought that was strange too. Any thoughts.

Mogoofy, I can see an animated image in your signature right now. You might find that everyones signature images may come and go. I'm sure that you've had occassions where you've tried to visit a web site that you had been to many times and it wasn't there. Later it was back. That happens when computers are involved!! The same could be true of the computers used by your ISP to house the web sites for it's users. If these web hosts are down for any reason, or possibly even just very busy when a request for an image comes in, it might be denied and that image won't be displayed. You might find that all it takes is to refresh the page and the image is there or it could be a while before it is visible if the web host is actually offline for some reason. No host is going to be 100% and some will definitely be better than others. With the information that I have, that would be my best guess as to the issue you are seeing.

Thanks for the explanation. Didn't even think about your observation and should have! You are the Man! when it comes to fixing problems or explaining to the disable.
