Question about kitchen counters...

My parents just installed Granite and have a granite backsplash with a small molding ontop of it.

We have corian and have a corian back splash up about 3 inches and then tile above that.

We went with the standard granite counter tops & 4-inch granite backsplash - then had tile work done above the backsplash. We did upgrade to the Ogee edge which I love...

When can I move in? Beautiful ... Do you mind if I steal the pictures to put in my dream folder???

We were doing the whole kitchen addition ourselves and on the cheap so did granite TILE for the countertop with a decorative tile backsplash. Edging was a cherry counter trim from a local fine woods place to match the cherry cabinets. Regular sink as my friends with undermount ones were complaining about how the bottom side gets just as grimy, but is much harder to clean. A toothbrush and a microfiber cleaning cloth and I'm good.

That's one thing I like about the Corian ... our sink is also Corian and it's one piece with the countertop. No groves to worry about. Some people think the Corian sink is harder to keep clean on it's own but I haven't had that problem. Ours is a cream color and will a little soft scrub every once in a while and there are no stains or anything. I am guilty of leaving stuff in the sink too long sometimes, including red sauce and stuff but still no stains.

Another silestone vote here. We just completed our kitchen and definitely had a budget. The counter/sink all in one is just unbelievably easy. No seams at all. We have glass tile as a backsplash and all the way up to the upper cabinet. We love it. We did not spend a huge amount of money either. Took advantage of some free stuff if we purchased a certain color counter and got a free sink cabinet, etc. Saved alot of $$. Got easy to clean cabinets mainly due to our grandsons living with us right now with our daughter.

I wanted something in keeping with the age and style of the house (1886 Italianate Victorian) so we went with square-edged soapstone and a tin backsplash. The tin is VERY easy to clean, which is a plus in my book.

We're looking at doing soapstone too! I'd love to see a pic of yours if you're able. How do you find maintenance/cleaning - fairly easy? We'll be putting in a glass tile backsplash and undermounted sink...can't wait to get it started!! The tin sounds really unique - I've seen ceilings before but not backsplash! This sounds so nice - PICS PLEASE!!
