DH & I are considering a 5 night trip to Universal/Discovery Cove/SeaWorld over Easter break next year.

There are 5 of us, so I'm trying to figure out the best room configuration.

The kids are 16 & 13yo brothers and their 13yo step-sister, so while 2 rooms would be nice, it's not appropriate for the 3 kids to have their own room. The only other option seems to be the kid's suite, but I'm concerned about the bed size. My oldest son is over 6' and I'm concerned his feet will be hanging off the end of the bed.

Are the twin beds a standard size, or are they slightly smaller?

i'm sure someone will answer your actual question :lmao: - but if it helps we had a deluxe room for 5 of us in May and we had two queen beds and a double sofa bed. That would certainly accomodate you length wise but obviously it would mean two sharing a bed. But the room size itself was great - plenty of space!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I'd go for 2 connecting rooms personally. You can put a rollaway into one room (I'm guessing that they have the usual configuration of a king room connecting to two queens.).

I was told that they guarantee connecting rooms for families from the reservations agent with whom I spoke today. I'd price this out. A kids suite will only give you a king bed and two twins - plus only one bathroom.

Good luck!

i suggest you check out some of the recent and past trip reports in the trippie forum.

i know i read some of them that had queens, deluxe or suites/kids with pictures of the rooms.

sometimes in the trippies people will mention the pros and cons of the room they had. all that helps us when we are planning.

also, pull up the hotels and check out the sizes and layouts of the rooms.
dimensions are listed in the diagrams. maybe that will help with your question of the 6' son.

Wow I just looked at my pictures and they got super tiny... hmmm

This should be a larger picture of the twin beds, in teh second bedroom They are Standard or larger...

Although I could sure understand NOT wanting to book 2 rooms, it is alot of $$, but I recommend it. You should be able to get connecting rooms. You would be much happier with 2 bathrooms. I have 4 kids, but one trip we took 3 of them to Cedar Point and squeezed into one concierge room at Breakers. I wanted to be inside the park, and we decided to go for one room to help pay for the concierge. WELL. It is funnier now, but let me just say that we needed 2 bathrooms. Sometimes my sons would go to the LOBBY to use the restrrom there when they could not "wait". The "kids" were about 18-16(boys) and 12(girl).

We want to go back to Universal in 2010, and I fear we will need 3 rooms if the kids have friends come along...... (the now adult boys would pay for most of theirs of course). I wish they had some sort of larger suite for big families.

Thanks all, I'm going to have to look into this some more.

I'd love to have 2 rooms, BUT the ONLY way this would work is if I roomed with my step-daughter and DH roomed with the boys. Not exactly my idea of a vacation.

BUT if we only use the room to sleep, it could work.

Ah...the joys of step-life...and teenagers....never easy!
