question about kids club age groups

I'm getting conflicting information about this,so I'm not sure which is correct. I downloaded the Disney Cruise Guide and they list the age groups as 3-5, 6-8, 9-10 and 11-12. The Dis lists the age groups as 3-4, 5-7, 8-9 and 10-12. Could someone please clear this up for me?

I just posted a note on this to another thread as well but here is what I know at the moment.

Friends are onboard the Wonder even as I type. When their cruise docs arrived the Club was 3-7, with Lab 8-12. They won't be back until the 12th of August though so I hope someone can confirm this before then.

Just returned from 7/27 7-day Eastern. I have a 12 yo DD and a 10 yo niece. Their Personal Navigators showed the activities for the 10-12 year old age group.

Nicky, the DIS is accurate. It's 3-4, 5-7 (at the Oceaneer's Club) and 8-9, 10-12 at the Lab.

Oh no. I thought it was 6-8. I have a 6 year old and 8 year old. There is no way in the world that they will go to the clubs by themselves. I thought I read that you could move your child down one age group. This would mean that my 8 year old could be in the 5-7 group. Does anyone know if this is true? Please say yes.

that is true you can always move a kid down an age group if they are willing, moving up can be hit or miss.

Yes & maybe no...they will be based out of the same facility but the kids are not always in those spaces. The experience of my two has been that they move all over the ship. Sometimes seeing stuff the grown-ups don't get to!

My girls are very, very shy & there were in seperate clubs last November 1 was 4 & 1 was 5 years old. They had an awesome time. It would be 11:00 pm and dh and I were ready for bed and the girls did not want to leave the clubs!

Wow, I didn't know the program was so extensive. I was expecting something like the Neverland Club. What factors do they consider when asked to move a child up? I have a 4yo who may want to stay with her 6yo sister. Who do you ask? Thanks in advance!

I also have a 4yr old and a 6 year old. They both have birthdays in May - we will be sailing in October. So they will be 4 and a half and 6 and a half. My 4 year old is very mature and plays with my 6 year old's friends all the time. I can't imagine them not letting her move up if it was explained nicely and the councelors evaluated her for a few hours.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

When you register the kids in the clubs you can request that the 2 children be put into the same club. I cannot imaging our cruise without the clubs. That made the trip for my kids.

My son will be 5 years and 19 days on our cruise, and in some ways I think the 3-4 year old stuff will be better--but I'll wait and see the navigators to see where more characters, etc. are. He will probably not be able to read.

(A child may participate in an older age group, if they are within one month of the minimum age for that group. Example would be a 7-year-old who wishes to join the 8-9 group and is within a month of turning 8.)

This is taken from WebmasterMichelle's post that I have linked in my post above. You have a much better chance of moving a child down in age group, if you feel a change is needed to keep children together. They also have to keep in mind if the clubs are full of their quota of children as they have to maintain a counselor to child ratio of one to 25.
