Question about Keys to Kingdom and other tours

My sister and I are heading to Disney World in 12 days and I have a question about the tours. We are on the Silver Plan and are interested in taking the Keys to the Kingdom tour and possibly the Hidden Treasures of the World tour. It says that with this plan we can use one of our wishes for taking either of these tours. How do we go about setting that up? Can we book the tour at our hotel or is this something we have to set up in advance? If so do we tell someone when we call that we want to use our wishes for this? Also, which tour do you think is the better out of these two? They both sound good but I think I am leaning more towards the Keys to the Kingdom tour. Any thoughts?
Thanks a bunch!!!

Hi. I did the Keys to the Kingdom tour today-had it booked with a group tour-trade show-it was fabulous, i learned tons, I did this same tour back in 97, learned lots. I would highly recommend it. Good Luck! Val

You can book the tour in advance (407-WDW-TOUR). I'm not usre how far in advance they book tours, but I assumed 90 days just like PS and they were able to make the booking.

When you book the tour, the CM should ask you (or at least I was asked), if I were on a Silver, Gold, or Platinum plan. I am not, so I can't specifically answer how they handle that.

Be aware that unlike a PS, you will be required to pay for the tour at time of booking (unless you use a package feature). I am not sure if they will at least want a credit card number from you to hold the space.

You will be given a confirmation number, just like with a PS. The CM will also give you a decription of the tour, tell you where to meet the guide, and explain the policies (camera restrictions, age restrictions, etc) Also, at least in the case of Keys to the Kingdom, I was asked to check in at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.

I called Disney yesterday to change our hotel reservation and before I got off the phone with the CM, I inquired about the KK tour. We don't know if we are going to do it or not and I wanted to know if I had to book way in advance or if I could book it while I'm down there. She told me that in Jan/Feb. this tour isn't going to book up quickly, so if I called 2 days or so before the date I wanted to go, that would be fine. She, also told me that she has done this tour twice, once in the value season and once during peak, and when she did it in value there was only 6 or so people on the tour with her and it made it more enjoyable. We are seriously considering doing this tour!! :D

Check out some descriptions of both tours on this site:

I have done both and thoroughly enjoyed each.
If MK is your favorite, Keys to the Kingdom is for you. This one includes lunch. In December we did Undiscovered Future World with Tim.
It would be impossible for me to pick a favorite.
You can't go wrong.

Yes you cant go wrong with either one. But I would say KK was my favorite. But you must pay for it ahead of time. And I would do that. These tours weather off or on season seem to be full or filling up. So decide on your day and get it booked.

Also the KK tour starts before the park is open so keep that in mind.

While we are on the topic of Keys to the Kingdom, I will be taking this tour on Feb 8 at 9:00, will any other DIS users be joining me?

I'm interested in the KK tour... Do they only do one per day, or are there multiple times in the morning to choose from?

If you're on the Silver Plan, just tell them that. They'll need a credit card to hold your spot, but will only charge the card if you're a no-show.

First thanks for all the replies they were really helpful. I just finished booking the Keys to the Kingdom tour so were looking forward to that. To answer Tabetha's question...When I called the guy I talked to asked if I wanted to do the 8:30, 9:00, or 9:30 tour so it looks like they offer three different tours each day. I hope that helps.

We did both the kk and hidden treasures tours in November. We had a great time on KK (though it was long) and learned an awful lot. We ditched treasures because our tourguide was rather offensive. The pins you get on both are very nice. Enjoy.

We've done both Keys and Hidden Treasures. We liked Keys a bit better, but then we like MK better. Hidden Treasures was great because we never felt like we really appreciated WS and the tour pointed out a lot that we'd missed - and we liked WS a lot more afterward.

When we did KTTK we were on the Gold Plan, no problems there. Hidden Treasures was the first time we'd used the Silver Plan for a tour. Our travel agent set it up for us, and at the start of the tour they verified that we were on the Silver Plan. Yet we were still charged for it. It was an easy fix at POR - they switched it over to our wishes and we weren't charged. Just keep your eye on how many wishes you have left and check your room charges at the end of your trip to make sure.

HTH:)
