Since DH and I seem to get more junk mail, credit card offers mainly, than real mail...I need an answer to a question...

First off, I've written to the companies, and called them with the documentation of who I spoke with etc. to be removed from their mailing lists, to no avail.

Can I put "return to sender" on the envelope and drop it back in the mailbox? Its not really a big deal, but when I've tried everything else I know about to stop the junk mail, I thought maybe they'd get the picture if they get there own mail back?

Thoughts?

Why don't you just recycle it?

That's what we do now - it goes straight into the recycling bin for collection!

You certainly CAN do that. But make sure you completely cover and bar codes on the envelope, or it will probably come back to you. Cover your address well too.

I cover the address and the bar code on any mail I do not want and return it to sender. If they have to pay the potage both ways, eventually they'll get the hint to stop sending it.

I got an e-mail once aout opening junk mail, tearing it all up and placing inside the self-addressed return envelope that usually comes with junk mail. That way, they'd get it back and pay for it again too.

Disney Doll....What do you find the most effective way to cover address and bar code when returning unwanted mail? Possibly a piece of masking tape? Would lilke to try this! :teeth:

If you want to be taken off their mailing list, take the part of the junk mail that has your info on it, write "Please take this name off your mailing list" next to it, and mail it to them in the postage paid envelope they provide. It really works. I used to get tons of junk mail, and now seldom receive any. :)

This is a good option, the return to sender especially on a pre-approved CC application isn't a good idea since it keeps the application in mailbox longer. Not something you want in the wrong hands.

You can write to the Direct Marketing Association they have a mail opt out program. Also contact the credit companies and opt out of them sharing your information. This will stop the CC pre-approvals.

Do the Direct Marketing Association opt out recommended by Janette. We used to get a half dozen credit card apps a week. We don't even get that many a year now. It takes a few months to see any difference, but it really does help. Our accountant recommended doing it.
