Question about ID's for young Autistic DD

Hi everyone, My DD is almost 3 and is autistic with some sensory issues. My question is, what do you use for identification in the parks. I've always put the info inside of my oldest 2's shoes. They are old enough to know that if something happened their info is in their shoe. My problem is my youngest won't want a bracelet and she can's talk to say Hey, my info is in my shoe. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

I have ordered my DD buttons to wear on her clothing from Buttonsandmore.com. There are a couple which state her condition on the front and have my contact info on the reverse. However, some days she will pull at the button until it comes off and some days she will leave them on. I have no idea why she will wear it one day and not another.

At DL guest services they gave me a sticker to quietly put on DS back w/o him noticing. I put on my name and cell #.

It was cute idea and he never knew it was on him.

I bought velcro id's that go on the shoe laces (or velcro straps) from Whose Shoes ID (featured on one of the disney websites, maybe Mousesavers??) You can write the info on it and strap it on the shoe. I got them for all three of my kids, and even had a few CM comment on them during our trip. I've actually left them on their shoes here at home....so we can be safe ALL the time.

I used to pin a note on DS, autistic, on the back of his shirt where he couldn't reach it. I used a safety diaper pin.

I once wrote the kid's first name and a phone number on his stomach with a Sharpie. Hey, it made me feel better. Sure it took a week to scrub off, but I didn't have to worry about it falling off or getting wet.

I wrote "mom" and my cell phone number on my kids' hands. Actually, my son, who has the issues that brought me to this board, refused (the idea of getting separated made him very anxious, and in true form, he decided that the best way to prevent it from happening was to refuse to participate in anything related to the concept at all). Anyway, we wrote it on a piece of paper and stuck it in his pocket, and then kept a CLOSE eye on him. But if DD will let you write on her skin, that seemed like a good solution.

On our last trip, Christian broke his medic alert necklace. We decided to write our cell numbers on his arms. I felt kinda bad about it, but I woulda felt worse if he had run off in the crowd and couldn't tell anybody who he was or where he belonged.

I ordered the id's from whos shoes based on the suggestion in this thread. They came super quick and are exactly what I needed for my non verbal son (and his twin too for good measure).

Love whose shoes tags. Both kids have them, the NT one and the slightly verbal one too. We use DD mainly when traveling.

I use who's shoes for DD age 4 with Autism...they are bright & I have heard that the cast members know what they are & are trained to look for them on a lost child. My DD would never be able to tell someone her name, my name, etc. Also, you should NEVER just "label" your kid where a stanger can readily see the name (ie. buttons, badges, stickers, even written on hand or arm)...especially with a special needs child. A stranger could see the name from a few feet away & just walk up to "Johnny" & say "Hey Johnny, your mommy sent me to get you"...and my DD would trust anyone who knew her name. That's why no names on the outside of backpacks, no personalized shirts, buttons, etc. Older or neurotypical kids can be taught a code word that a stranger would not know, but then neither would a helpful cast member...better safe than sorry. On Who's Shoes tags you cannot see the info without taking the whole tag off.

Note also that Medicalert does a shoe tag. They're not as visible as the who's shoes ones, and I don't see how you put them on shoes that don't have laces, but if you need medical info on the tag, this might be a good solution.

My daughter has a medical alert necklance and then in the parks there are kiosks where you can get a tag and choose what to put on it. Her medica alert has her medical stuff, her Disney tag says her name, that she is non verbal and our names and cell phone numbers. Both of these are on the same heavy duty chain. Even at home we have trained her that she is not to leave home without that necklace on.

I have been searching the site to locate purchasing the Whose Shoes ID's mentioned on this thread; however, I have been unsucessful. Can anyone help? I actually leave for WDW tomorrow morning (catching the auto train & arriving on Sat). I thought that I could order and have shipped to the POR (I noticed other threads mentioning shipping items to their resorts). Thanks for your help !

Would the Who's Shoes tags work on Crocs? I got an idonme bracelet, but it is VERY tricky to open--it's even hard for me. I'm afraid a CM would have no idea how to retrieve the info.
