On arrival day, how do you get to choose what apartment to live in? Or is it assigned to each person?

You get to choose based on what is available at that time.

The process goes like this.. You walk into the welcome pavilion after filling out all of the paperwork and there is a line leading up to 3 podiums with cast members with computers. When you walk up they'll ask you if you have any preferences for # of roommates or specific complex. It's at this time you tell them what you want and they do their best to meet your requests. If what you want isn't available they'll tell you what is and you choose what you want.

WHat if you want a specific roommate? Do you tell them at this point, or have to notify them in advance? What if you and your potential roomie check in on different days?

If you have roommates you need to be in line together and tell them that you want to room together when you get to the podium. Otherwise you will just get random people. And your roommates must have the same check in date as you.

you cannot live with someone with a different arrival date. if you show up to check-in without a roommate you will be assigned to one then. they will do the best they can to accomdate what you want but if you get there late or are futher back in like you are most likely to end up in vista way as it is the largest. each time i've gotten my exact request but i have lined up VERY early

If your parents decide to come down. Here is a trick: As soon as you get your room key, have them choose your room and move you in while you're being processed.

My S22 (then S20/21), had 5 roommates, the parents of one of his roommates picked the bedroom with its own bath. My S's bedroom had a better view but he shared a bathroom with 3 other guys. The first kid share bathrooms with 1 other person.

He lived in both Vista Way and Chatham. Chatham is better.

How early is considered "early"? I've heard stories of waiting at 4 am

are you guys talking about check in? 4am is crazy, I'm sleeping in. what's the point of getting there that early, I'll just wanna go take a nap afterwards

If you have no preference on complex, number of roommates or don't have specific roommates in mind, there is no reason to show up early.

But if you have roommates picked out and you really want a 1-2 bedroom, you might want to get there early. My last CP we were there at maybe 7, but it was also summer alumni and a small check in date. We wanted a 2 bedroom at vista and did not want to room with other random people.

If I find roommates I'll do what they want and probably end up camping out at 4am. It will be a good chance to get to know eachother!

if you are the first ones in line does that mean you will get through housing and casting bs?

I would guess so. You would get on the earlier bus to casting instead of having to wait around. I plan to drive to casting myself to avoid the bus load of CPs that arrive all at once

my first program we got there for 630, my second i think around 5. it was still dark when we got in line. people WILL start waiting in the parking lot across vista wanting to be first to get whatever they want. chatham usually is the hardest to get, as it's not quite vista and not as quiet as patterson so if your'e thinking about CS considering staying in the holiday inn across the road and getting there bright and early

Does this mean that you go directly from check-in to casting? I'd think you'd at least get a few minutes to put your bags in your apartment...

Definitely planning on earlier, as long as they don't plan on enforcing the 8am rule. Which from history, has been fine for those lining up at 4am and earlier...

You usually go straight from check in to casting, at least that is the way I've had it work. From when you get your apartment key, then you go through some lecture sessions at Vista Way pavilion and then wait for the casting bus. Parents who stayed are somewhere in some room,m y dad didn't go in with me so I have no idea about parents who accompanied their kids, but it is practically straight to the casting bus.

I know in years past Disney provided a roommate notification program for the DCP. Does anyone know if they will be using this for the fall or did they do away with the program?

It wasn't available for spring 2013, I don't know if they will reboot it for fall 2013, but I wouldn't count on it.
