Question about height restrictions

If a ride has a height restriction, is that to ride alone? For instance, my son is 38 1/2 inches. If an attraction has a 40" restriction, can he ride with an adult? I noticed on the Disneyland site it says 32" (82 cm) or taller — Accompanied by Another Rider 54" or Taller but doesn't mention it for the other height restrictions.

Thanks in advance.

Some attractions like autopia and I think the tea cups have a flat requirement to ride at all and another to ride alone.

Where are you quoting from, it might help if we knew the attraction you are referring to.

Thanks. I quoted from th main Disneyland height restriciton list. I need 3 ore posts to be able to post links... It's from the DL guest services section of the website.

There might be some rides that have a minimum to ride with adult and minimum to ride alone like you mention, but there are definitely rides out there that have a minimum period restriction like ToT, for instance. CMs are pretty strict about meeting it, too. They don't accept close.

Thank you. I'm thinking that my son will be too scared to ride some of the 40" rides anyway. Fingers crossed. ;) When my daughter was his age, she was 41" and fearless, so it wasn't an issue.

Autotopia and the Bumber Cars at DCA have a seperate "ride with adult" and "ride alone" height requirements. The rest DO NOT! Splash Mountain is 40" to ride period.

The one you quoted was for Autotopia I think. And Bumber Cars are 36" with an adult.

Check out allears.net- click on the Disneyland tab at the top. From there you can click on each land and see the rides, height restrictions, photo's (for some of the rides), menu's, etc.

I like this site because it's user friendly, though I wish they would get to work already and make it more complete. I also like that they show so many pictures, it's helpful when trying to figure out how your kiddo will be able to ride. Like for Big Thunder- I like knowing he will be right next to me or in my lap for Matterhorn. The height restrictions are listed on each page for each separate ride. If the ride has no height restriction, then it will say so as in the case of Pirates.

I also love having the menu's available- makes it much easier when trying to budget food money and figure out where my picky DS and DH will eat!

Thanks for the clarification.

Just wanted to add the link, now that I can: Height Restrictions

If you click on each height, it'll take you to the page that lists the rides included for that height requirement.

32" (82 cm) or taller — Accompanied by Another Rider 54" or Taller
Autopia, presented by Chevron

35" (89 cm) or taller
Gadget's Go Coaster, presented by Sparkle®
Matterhorn Bobsleds

40" (102 cm) or taller
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Space Mountain
Splash Mountain
Star Tours

That particular height info is one of the unusual ones. You have to be a certain height to be on it at all, and then a different height to ride *alone*. DS has been riding it since he was 3, even steering. But I'm in the car with him, and will be until he's 54" (which will be frighteningly soon, as he's not even 6 but pushing 48").

Anything else with a height requirement, the child MUST be that height or above. So a 38.5" child isn't going to make the 40" rides or higher.

Apart from Autopia's height requirement (which only makes sense as you have to be able to push down the pedal AND see over the steering wheel), 7 years is the overall age for riding alone.

Wow Molly he is tall ~ DD last Dec. still wasn't tall enough for Indy *and that was fine with her. Robert's tall right? I'm not short ~ almost 5'6" and my kids dad is 6 feet. Maybe she'll be tall enough for her B~day trip, since it'll just be the 2 of us. I only rode it during our quickie trip in Dec. last year, all other times it was just the 3 of us so DS single rode. She did ride Dinosaur last Oct. ~ why is it a 40 incher?? Her eyes and mine were closed the entire time.

There is also height info on the DIS. Before linking to another site (except official Disney), please check on THIS site first for that info. I do like the idea of having pictures of the rides themselves so you can see the seating arrangements. Sounds like that would be useful here.

Robert's only 5'10", and he's the tallest in his family...and I'm only 5'3". But my dad is 6'2", and we suppose the height came on through the genetics without the filter of my shrimpy mom, LOL. With the help of my tall stepmom, my half brothers are something like 6'4", and my 16 year old half sister is probably 5'7" already, so the genetics are strong from my dad, just not in me and my full brother. E was over 22" when he was born...got up to 2 feet long very quickly. Everything about him has been unexpected, from his red hair and amber-brownish eyes to his height etc etc!

Dinosaur being 40" is so weird, since everyone says it's just about the same as Indy, which is 46"! I also figure there's a CA vs FL thing going on there, though...car seat laws, pool slide laws, etc...things are much more lax out there in FL than in CA, it seems.

I'm still trying to get my head around the age thing. Let's say you're on a ride where there are multiple cars with 2 people per car (like Gadgets). Could a 5 and 6 year old who meet the height restriction ride in one car together as long as you're with them in another car on the same ride i.e. behind or in front of them? I'm planning on taking my daughters by myself for Halloween and I'm trying to figure out in advance which rides we will and won't be able to go on.

I can tell you that on the Teacups they would not allow my DD who was 7 at the time, ride with her 6 year old cousin. One of us had to ride with them. Not sure about the others.

Almost all rides will allow 3 across. If there is a situation where 3 may not fit, you may be able to get a CM to ride with the other child. It also depends on the CM running the ride if they will let you ride behind them.

Yes, I'm hoping we can fit together in most rides. Otherwise I'll be depending on the kindness of CM's, and - in the case of the teacups - a whole lot of gravol!
