Question about handling money at yard sale this weekend

Our community yard sale is Saturday. I usually have a tin with a flip-top lid that I use to hold the money. I'm not sure where that tin is now, and need an alternative. I don't have an apron, which would probably be ideal, but maybe I could use a Longaberger Cracker basket that's not being used otherwise at this moment.

What do you do with the money (or change) you make at yard/garage sales?

fanny pack, hipster bag.. i never let the money out of my sight!! people are desperate these days and they may pick it up "accidently" of course..
i use my hipster bag that i bought for Disney, it has a couple compartments so i can keep change and bills apart. works perfectly for me.

Oh-yah! I have a hipster bag in the closet, used it at the beach and in NYC last year. Thanks for the reminder. ;)

I second the fanny pack. That way if someone asks you a question "over there" you can go and not worry about the money. Some groups go around to these sales and try to separate the seller from the money box by asking a question, and they take off with the money. Good luck!! Hope it's super-successful!:thumbsup2

I would only keep $40 in change, and put all the rest into my deep pockets of old lady style jeans! Then when we would have a break I would take the bills from my pocket inside and hide it in the house.

good luck with your yard sale, OP! the hipster/fanny pack and hiding money in the house periodially are great ideas!

Fanny Pack or anything you can have attached to you. Don't let it out of your site. People steal from yardsales all the time imagine what would happen to a cute little basket filled with cash!

Maybe I'm too trusting... but a diaper wipe container. I pull out big bills occassionally and keep about $40 in it.

The hipster bag will work perfectly and keep me mobile. In years past the tin hasn't been a problem. Someone is always nearby to keep watch over it. Looking forward to a great sale. We are trying to sell food for the first time. We sold bottled water last year and that went really well. I think we are one of the first houses on our end of the neighborhood that has a sale on our side of the street. I think only one or two others were set up last year on the next block.
