This may be a stupid question, but what color vest and tie do most grooms wear? What color looks best in photos? My dress is white and me and my fiance can't decide if he should wear a white vest and tie or a black vest and tie. Do ya'll have any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate it!

I think it's all based on personal preference. My DH didn't get to make too many decisions (mainly because he didn't want to) but when it came time to choose his tux and his attendants tuxes, I let him have free reign. If you look on our TR, you'll see they chose the zoot suits from After Hours. My DH had a white tux with black pin stripes. the shirt and tie were black. It looked amazing on him and looked even better in the pics. I've seen guys with light colored tuxes, with light and dark colored shirts and ties... it's all about what he likes. They all look great in pics!! :goodvibes

I agree it's personal preference. My DF is wearing a black tux with white vest and tie (traditional) the groomsmen are wearing black tuxes with silver vest and tie.

From my experience, most grooms wind up in white. I think it's mostly because the black and/or colors wind up being used for the groomsmen, and the groom wants to stand out.

There aren't any hard and fast rules, that I know of, for this, so I would have him pick the one he geniunely likes better.

Personally, I love the black vest and tie...but, it only says "formal" to me. A white vest and tie says "groom". JMO. :)

My dress is champagne, so DF will be wearing a black tux with champagne tie and vest.

For our wedding, DH did the silver/grey and the groomsmen wore black.

For our other recent one, the groomsmen wore black again, and the groom wore white.

I liked DH in the silver. I don't like the white on white because they didn't quite match on any of the tuxes we looked at. If they were the same white, I would have been ok with it. (I've seen it on others-just not from Men's Wearhouse apparently, or our Men's Wearhouse)

Thank you all for your comments. I know my fiance will definitely be in a black tux, but we just can't decide on the vest/tie color. My bridesmaids are going to wear light pink gowns and the groomsmen will be in black tuxes with a black vest and light pink tie. So I know that regardless of what color Phillip (my fiance) goes with, he will be different than the groomsman. We just can't decide between white or black.:confused3 Maybe I will just tell him to choose one. But he is so laid back and easy going that he probably won't care!

I personally don't like colors in Groom and Groomsmen tuxes, but its all up to you in what you prefer and feel would suit them best...:thumbsup2

My DF wanted a color. My dress is ivory and he chose a blue tie and vest. we were told if he chose white once we stood next to each other that my color dress would look dirty. It's a really nice shade and much better than the yellow he wanted - yikes!

When we visited a tux vendor recently, the owner's first question was what are the colours of our wedding, especially the bridesmaids dresses. The vest and bowtie are supposed to match or compliment their dress colours. When I finally got a hold of Disney Floral, Rosie's first questions were what are the colours of our wedding, what colours are the bridesmaids dresses and what material is the wedding gown and the bridesmaids dresses. From there, she offered suggestions on types of flowers and colours.
