One of the installers we got a quote from said they put the granite right on top of the cabinets. Is that right? Doesn't it need to sit on plywood or at least some kind of board?

Thanks.

Our granite countertops were installed about 7 years ago, and they were installed on top of the cabinet with no underlying support. It's been fine, we haven't had any problems.

Thanks. I have laminate now and do not too much about granite. I need to do some research.

Thanks again:)

Ours has been right atop of the cabinets in every house we've lived in.

It's installed right on top of the cabinets - and it's so heavy, it's not going anywhere.

Goes right on top - no plywood needed. They will usually shoot a bead of silicone down on the tops of the cabinets, and then shim it so that it is level at any of the seams (unless you are doing full one-piece countertop)
