My mom has offered to take my 3yo son with her to Philadelphia to visit my sister and neices. This involves flying from St. Louis to PHL. Is there any documentation that is needed for her to take him on an out of town flight? Do, I need to give her written permission for this. I have taken him before by myself and nothing was ever asked about his identity. They checked my ID, of course and just "assumed" he was my child and the child whose name was on the ticket. Would this be any different if he was with Grandma with a different last name? Any help would be great. TIA!!!

I don't know personally but you could call the airline. Or send a letter just in case.

When my brother took his son to Canada for a hockey game, he was questioned about where the boy's mother was as he was taking his son out of the country. (They are happily married.) He did get on the plane ok though.

My parents took my niece (7) from California to North Carolina and back with no problems. They have the same last name but I don't know if that would make a difference.

I think as long as you're not leaving the country, it should be okay, but I agree maybe you should check with the airline.

Hope they have a fun trip!

My parents took DD on a trip. I gave them a medical waiver that contained my signed, notarized permission for them to authorize any medical treatment they decided was needed, and provided our insurance info, and her basic (although short) medical history. They didn't need it, but just in case that gave them the authority to call any shots. It also included a paragraph that I was authorizing them to act as her guardians for the purpose of the trip, but they were never asked for anything. And her last name is not the same as their's either.

I took my then 3 yr old Nephew to WDW from Dallas last Oct. I had my Lawyer draw up a couple of documents . They do not have to be written by a lawyer though .
The most important was the Medical release saying I had permission to have him treated and make choices for her about him .
The second one was one the airlines (AA) requested it was drawn up to state that she knew I was taking him and the dates he was to be in my care . We had it a notery sign and I carried a copy of her DL with it to prove she had signed it .

I was only asked on my way out of town to show the paper and onthe way back not a soud asked anything .

He will be goign back to WDW with my DH in Dec . for a few days and AA said they wanted the same type of thing
