For the goldfish experts!

My goldfish pond is too small for the number of goldfish I have (I started with 4; one gave birth and now, a year later, I have some 15 goldfish).

We are in the processing of buying a weekend place in east Texas. It does have a small stock pond that appears to keep water year round. There are minnows and frogs living in the pond.

My question is simple: if I transfer 10 of my goldfish to this pond, is there any reason that they would not survive? After all, here at the Fort Worth Zoo they have a large pond stocked with goldfish and Koi.

Any help would be appreciated.

Your chances are fairly good they'll do quite well. However, I would strongly recommend adding a filter and some sort of pump/waterfall if there isn't one already, since goldfish do need a lot of oxygen dissolved in their water. Especially if the water is very deep.

It also depends on the water quality, but if there are frogs in there it's likely to be fairly good. Other than that, I can't really think of anything. I say go ahead and do it! With more space your goldies can get nice and big! :thumbsup2 Don't forget to acclimatize them to the new pond, and have fun with your new weekend house!

Thanks for the advice!

I don't think the water is very deep. I do plan on having my wife walk into it and we shall see how high the water gets (ha!).

I will wait a month or so and then try a couple of the goldfish and see how they do. I would love to have a big pond of goldies!
